Our nation is facing a growing health care crisis, as companies and employees are confronted with rising health care costs. A McKinsey study projects that by 2008 the average Fortune 500 company will be spending as much annually on health care benefits as it earns in profits. In his address, Mr. Burd will discuss the problems and opportunities that lie ahead in the national health care debate. He will emphasize the importance of advancing preventative care, behavioral change, and personal financial incentives as a part of the solution to lowering costs and improving the health and wellness of workers. Mr. Burd will also challenge government, business, and consumers to work together in a new spirit of cooperation and leadership to examine the core problems and develop comprehensive reforms to solve the nation's health care crisis.
