Conference Theme
This year's theme Unlocking Hidden Potential for Health Policy Reform will focus on building strong components of health promotion, improvement and disease prevention in national, state, and local health system reform. NNPHI will convene national, state, and local thought leaders in health reform and highlight work of national organizations, public health institutes, health policy centers, and local health collaboratives related to health reform.

Keynote Speakers
This year's keynote speakers are national experts and thought leaders in health reform. The conference opening keynote speaker will be George Halvorson, Chair & CEO of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc & Kaiser Foundation Hospitals. He is also the author of Health Care Reform Now!.
Networking Opportunities
Meet up with colleagues from Public Health Institutes, State Health Policy Centers, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Public Health Association, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Health Transformation Plenary & Panel Sessions
Public health leaders from state and local levels will describe their efforts in advancing the dialogue to intefrate health promotion, improvement and disease prevention into health reform within their communities. National leaders from teh Archimedes Movement, the CDC/ASTHO/NACCHO Healthiest Nation initiative, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Commission to Build a Healthier America, have been invited to provide an overview of their national initiatives aimed at promotion a healthier US.
Health Equity Session
Vincent Lafronza from CommonHealth Action will lead a session on the integration of health equity and the social determinants of health into the health reform conversation. This interactive discussion will also provide insight on what roles non-traditional public health entities can play in assuring health equity in the US.
Roundtable Discussions
Representatives from public health institutes, health policy centers and national partner organizations will lead 12-14 different discussions on organizational infrastructure, cutting edge programs, research and policy activities that relate to the conference themes.
NNPHI Best Practices Showcase
Public health institutes working in varied landscapes will highlight the best of what they do during an energizing panel discussion of best practices.

The NNPHI 2008 Annual Conference events will begin on Wednesday, May 14th at 6:00 pm. The conference end on Friday, May 16th at 12:00 pm. The conference registration fee for general attendees is $300.

What is New Orleans Like Today?
New Orleans is still in the process of recovery. Evidence of Hurricane Katrina remains in varying degrees throughout the city, however many businesses and restaurants and much of the city infrastructure have improved within the last year.
