Following
the successful meetings in 2006 and 2007, ACF this year will focus on
the technical features and benefits of both sensory and digital
authentication technologies, and the practical means in which they are
implemented and used.
|
|
| |
- Sensory authenticators are examined by one or more of the human senses, with or without the aid of a tool or instrument to reveal or detect elements in the authenticator. This includes holograms, reactive inks and coatings, metamerics, and other labels and graphic features.
|
- Digital authenticators require the use of one or more computer, network or communications device for their verification. Digital systems are often used for serialisation, traceability, e-pedigree and coding.

Focusing
ACF as a technical meeting will fill a void in the authentication
community, providing a forum for presentation and discussion of topics
specific to the development and use of authenticators – whether
sensory, or digital, or (as is often the case now) both–as a means to
verify that an item is genuine. The concept of intellectual property
rights dates back over 200 years, but the concept of product
authentication is barely a decade old. So it is a young field with much
to establish in terms of best practice, best techniques and most
appropriate technologies. Furthermore, the array of authenticators is
continually being enhanced by new technologies, and ACF will examine
existing technologies any the latest developments emerging from
scientific institutes, research organisations and authentication
companies themselves, particularly in the context of how these can be
applied alongside-orinstead of - currently available systems. |
