The ZERI Training Team met recently and decided not to proceed with our California ZERI training scheduled for August 14-17, October 23-26, and December 4-7, 2009.
Enrollment was too low due in large part to the California budget crisis, not to mention the recession. There is wide spread interest and excitement about ZERI principles and trainings; however, the workshop model we're using at this time (three 4-day sessions separated by 8 weeks) for a certification course isn't working during these tight economic times. Some feedback we have received:
- I would like to attend one or two sessions, but not all three
- Certification isn't that important to some
- The cost for a 3-session training back to back is too high
- Is there a one day session I can attend to start?
- Are there ZERI groups or projects I can get involved with?
Armed with your valuable feedback, the American ZERI Leadership Team will meet this month to reorganize and restructure ZERI America. You may know that ZERI is one of the most prominent sustainability and systems design methodologies in Europe, Asia, and South America. The purpose of this restructuring is to create a viable and ongoing organization (similar to the US Green Building Council and LEED) to forward the ZERI principles and practices. We would like to provide introductory courses, project support, information sharing, networking, certification, master classes, and train the trainer opportunities. How we get there will be the topic of our organizing this summer.
We are currently thinking of offering a one day ZERI Introduction workshop on the east coast and west coast in October/November, followed by a 4-day workshop in February in the San Francisco Bay Area on ZERI Principles and Methodologies, with other workshops to follow. We are redesigning the content and structure of workshops to accommodate your needs.
Thank you again for your interest and support for ZERI! To keep informed of new ZERI training and collaboration opportunities as they are developed, please email us at training@ZERI.org.
