The Chicago Yacht Club Sailing School is offering a Safe Powerboat Handling class for juniors ages 13-18 this June. The class will be held in the Sailing School classroom from 4:30pm-8:30pm, Tuesday and Thursday June 19, 21, 26, and 28. Students successfully passing the course will earn a US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification.

A wide range of topics will be covered including hull shape and characteristics, rules of the road, navigational aids, low speed and planing maneuvers, safety requirements and overall best boating practices. The class will spend half of the time in the classroom and the other half our on the water getting practical experience operating the club’s fleet of RIBs.

All students must obtain an online NASBLA-approved boating education certification in order to participate. Staff recommends the course on the Boat-Ed website at www.boat-ed.com.

There is a limit of 18 students in the class please sign up early to ensure a space. The price for the four day course is $100. All junior members and children of members are welcome.
