Understanding the Higher Education Mental Health Alliance (HEMHA) New Document Balancing Safety and Support on Campus:
A Guide for Campus Teams
October 4, 2012
12 - 1:30 p.m. EST
The development of campus teams that respond to students of concern and address threats to campus safety have become standard practice in higher education settings. However many institutions struggle with developing a shared understanding about how these teams practice. A new Document developed by HEMHA, a collaborative organization comprised of various organizations interested in higher education mental health, summarizes the existing literature on campus teams and highlights key issues that should be considered when creating or managing a campus team. The guide offers various options for how these teams can be organized and led and offers existing teams new considerations in assessing their current functions, operations, or emphases. This presentation will review all of these aspects of this document and will be presented by two members of the Advisory Board used for the documents development.
