Description:
Your staff procedure manual and staff policy manual provide the foundation for good communication throughout your organization. Please join Holly Lakatos, Law Librarian from the California Court of Appeal - 3rd District who will discuss this important documentation. Learn to evaluate the need for different documentation types and obtain practical tips to write, revise or update employee documentation. Topics will include: workflow descriptions, policy alignment, consistency, and specific language for difficult problems.
Learning objectives:
- Participants will learn topics that should be addressed in an employee manual
- Participants will learn ways to analyze different sections of a working employee manual and assess usefulness
- Participants will learn ways to prepare effective employee documentation
Speaker:
Holly Lakatos is currently the law librarian at the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District in Sacramento where she is a solo librarian. She previously worked as the Director for Public Services at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Downtown Campus Library and as the Access Services Librarian at the University of Texas, Tarlton Law Library. During her 14 years in libraries, she has developed staff documentation for numerous circumstances, including: accreditation, reorganization, adjusting workflows, solving personnel problems, and keeping institutional memories. A past presenter at the AALL annual meeting on training and supervision, Holly will provide participants with real-world examples of staff documentation that can help supervisors and staff communicate better in the workplace. Holly is currently a member and incoming vice-chair of the AALL Continuing Professional Education Committee.
