Trust is not just a business issue — it affects many American institutions. There are benefits for organizations in different sectors to work together and form partnerships to rebuild trust.
Research done by the Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) indicates that there is a profound divergence of opinions between the public and the business community with regards to business values and trust; 94% of business leaders surveyed by BCLC believe that ethical practices are either critical or very important to their company, while public opinion polls continue to portray skepticism in corporate ethics.
Currently, most companies think about trust in terms of identifying ways to reduce risk and strengthen compliance. However, some companies are developing corporate ethical practices and stakeholder relationship management practices to pro-actively build trust with customers, employees, investors, and other important constituencies.
The U.S. Chamber’s Business Civic Leadership Center will host a forum on July 15 in partnership with the Ethics Resources Center to address these issues. This forum is for business and corporate social responsibility leaders and ethics practitioners who want a better understanding of how to address the trust problem. The presentation will include a roundtable discussion on how individual companies and organizations build trust and prevent scandals from derailing their reputation.
