Guest Speakers Dr. David Hinkamp, Director, Health and the Arts Program, University of Illinois-Chicago Dr. Hinkamp will provide four workshops on preventative health measures for a variety of artistic disciplines beginning at 10:00am in Orange Room (4j1).
David Hinkamp, MD, MPH is a board-certified Occupational Medicine physician, a specialty that focuses on work-related illnesses and injuries. He received his MD and Master in Public Health degrees from University of Michigan (UM), and did residencies at UM and Cook County Hospital.
After coming to Chicago in 1982, Dr. Hinkamp began working on musicians' health issues with the Jazz Institute of Chicago, Valerie Wellington's Chicago Blues Coalition and The Blues Heaven Foundation. After seeing many artist patients, it became clear that people in all art fields had special, work-related health problems and needed information on preventing them.
In 1999, Dr. Hinkamp founded the Health in the Arts Program at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) to address these health concerns. The program includes a clinic that provides healthcare for anyone in the arts, regardless of ability to pay. It also provides; educational resources, workplace evaluations and research – all focused on preventing work-related health problems in the arts.
Andre Pettigrew, Director, Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) As a new Mayoral appointee, Andre will share his "grow your own" philosophy of economic development including OED's new Neighborhood Marketplace Initiative.
