CONFERENCE THEME


The National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) is proud to announce its 12th annual conference, to be held on May 20-22, 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

This year's theme, The Art and Science of Collaborative Practice: Moving America's Health Agendas Forward, will explore the role of collaboration in facilitating health transformation.  This year's conference will share examples of public health institutes working in close collaboration with state and local health departments, as well as community-based organizations, universities, and other multi-sector partners, to support the implementation of health transformation initiatives such as the Community Transformation Grants, implementation of the Affordable Care Act, the growing field of Health Impact Assessments, Performance Improvement, and the Integration of Public Health and Health Care. Additional conference topics will include health equity, evidence-based public health, and discussion related to sustainability for public health institutes.  Leaders and staff of all public health institutes are highly encouraged to attend the NNPHI Annual Conference, which will feature content and capacity-building workshops for all public health institutes.

Roundtable Discussions
Two (2) roundtable sessions will be held this year to maximize small group discussion at the 2013 NNPHI Annual Conference. Representatives from public health institutes, health policy centers, and national partner organizations will lead 45-minute discussions based on the core competencies that share skills and strategies or hot topics.  To submit an abstract for a roundtable discussion, please visit the Opportunities/Extra Info tab on the conference website.


Breakout Sessions

Several breakout sessions will be held, allowing conference attendees to dig deeper on current and emerging health topics. Representatives from public health institutes, health policy centers, and national partner organizations will lead one-hour sessions, designed to be highly interactive and educational, that highlight innovative projects and programs that address critical health topics. To submit an abstract for a breakout session, please visit the Opportunities/Extra Info tab on the conference website.

 

Workshop Sessions
There will be several workshop sessions held this year on Monday, May 20th and Thursday, May 23rd at the 2013 NNPHI Annual Conference. Representatives from public health institutes, health policy centers, and national partner organizations will lead interactive workshops, designed to be a skill-building training for public health institutes and other conference attendees. This year, conference attendees will have a chance to submit an abstract for a 2-3 hour workshop session. To submit an abstract for a workshop session, please visit the Opportunities/Extra Info tab on the conference website. MEETINGS AND NETWORKING EVENTS


Sustainability Workshop: May 20, 2013 (11:00 AM - 3:30 PM) 
NNPHI invites all members and emerging institutes to attend the Sustainability Workshop on Monday, May 20th from 11:00- 3:30 PM.  Lunch will be served and we encourage members to consider having multiple staff attend the workshop so that they can take full advantage of the breakout sessions offered.  You will find an more information on the content for the workshop under the Agenda tab, on the registration website. 

Welcome Reception: May 20, 2013 (5:00 - 6:30 PM) 
The NNPHI board and staff will welcome conference participants at a reception held at the Astor Crowne Plaza Hotel, located where Canal Street meets Bourbon Street in the historic New Orleans French Quarter. The reception is a great opportunity to re-connect with colleagues and friends. 

Evening Reception: May 21, 2013 (7:00 - 10:00 PM) 
Join us this year at The Musée Conti Wax MuseumLocated in the heart of the French Quarter, NNPHI Annual Conference attendees will be treated to a guided tour of Musée Conti Wax Museum to view the 154 life-size wax figures displayed in historically accurate settings depicting the exciting history of New Orleans and the Louisiana Territory. Leading Through Health Systems Change: A Public Health Opportunity

Supporting Community Health Improvement: A Training Workshop for Public Health Institutes 
May 22, 2013 (2:00 - 5:00 PM) - May 23, 2013 (8:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
Supporting Community Health Improvement: A Training Workshop for Public Health Institutes will help public health institutes build capacity in assessment and planning as well as take advantage of opportunities created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) requirements to consult, coach, and, engage with health departments, hospitals, neighborhoods and community associations on Community Health Assessments (CHAs) and Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIPs). You will find an more information on the content for the workshop under the Agenda tab, on the registration website.
