What: Riding On Insulin Ski & Snowboard Camp, hosted by pro snowboarder Sean Busby
Who: Kids ages 7-17 with type 1 diabetes, and their siblings (no ski/board experience necessary)
Where: CairnGorm Mountain, Scotland
When:

  • Orientation is Friday, January 4th at 6PM, Macdonald Aveimore Resort
  • Event is Saturday, January 5th, 9AM-4PM at CairnGorm Mountain Resort
  • Vendor Village is Saturday, January 5th at 4:00PM and the dinner buffet will begin at 5:00PM, all at the Macdonald Aveimore Resort

Schedule: Participants will go through the day in groups, learning to ski/snowboard at their individual levels with coaches (most of whom have type 1 diabetes) who will provide instruction and medical volunteers, who will provide assistance with diabetes management. To conclude the day, there will be time to mingle with sponsors, a dinner buffet banquet will be served, and awards will be given at the banquet after a presentation from Riding On Insulin founder, Sean Busby. Participant Cost:

  • Participant fee—£100. Cost includes Saturday lunch, dinner, snacks, lift ticket, instruction and T-shirt. We have a limited number of scholarships available! See below for the application process!
  • Ski or board hire (including skis, poles, boots and helmet, or snowboard, boots and helmet)—£20
  • Ski/board hire WITH salopettes/jacket— £30

Parent/Guardians Cost:

  • Parent/guardian lift ticket: £35
  • Parent/guardian lunch: £9
  • Parent/guardian dinner banquet Saturday night: £19

Lodging: Rooms available for £98/night at the Macdonald Aveimore Resort, plus £13 per child age 5-12

For parents: Parents and families are welcome to attend the event, and either ski on their own, or network with other families affected by diabetes in the morning at a parent networking session.
Scholarship Opportunities: Full and partial scholarships are available thanks to the Iron Andy Foundation! To apply, please email mollie@ridingoninsulin.org with your reasoning for a full or partial scholarship (please specify the amount you're applying for in the email) and we will reply with a decision in a prompt manner. **Scholarships can only be given to kids living with type 1 diabetes.**
