There is a wonderful convergence of demographics at play today.  More than half of lawyers in Washington are 50 years of age or older.  More than one third of our members are in solo practice.  More than half of our members are in firms of 5 members or less.  There are law students graduating from law school in need of job opportunities.  Learn from both perspectives how to prepare for this opportunity and the  benefits to be gained for all involved.

11:50 - 12:10    Pick Up Lunch
12:10 - 2:10      Transition Planning: Buying or Selling a Practice (working lunch plus one 5-minute stretch break) presented by Jessica Jensen
Are you curious about options for selling your practice?  Does starting your own firm seem appealing but a bit overwhelming?  This seminar provides an overview of the practical aspects of selling and buying a solo or small practice.  Topics include:  Three reasons to sell or buy a practice, how much is a practice worth, ways to structure a sale and the importance of finding the right seller or buyer, including a brief look at generational differences.

2:15 - 2:30       Online Matchmaking System presented by Shawn Lipton, Michael Badger and Julia Nardelli Gross
The Washington State Bar Association in partnership with the Seattle University School of Law, University of Washington School of Law, and Gonzaga University School of Law have launched a system to facilitate the conversation between seasoned attorneys who are thinking of selling and young attorneys and 3rd year law students thinking of purchasing a practice.  This brief session will provide a brief demo of the system and answer any relevant questions.
