This three-day, 24-hour course provides awareness and operations level training for responding to weapons of mass destruction and/or hazardous materials incidents in health care settings. Through classroom and hands-on activities, participants will learn to recognize hazards, respond defensively, and effectively isolate, decontaminate and manage contaminated patients. In addition participants will become familiar with key concepts of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), National Incident Management System (NIMS), and practice using Level B and C Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

This course addresses compliance requirements for OSHA Emergency Response Operations Level CFR 1910.120 (q)(6)(ii) and OSHA Respirator Standard Requirements 29 CFR 1910.134. An annual refresher is required.

Each morning, the course will begin with a classroom lecture at our 35 Northampton Street campus. During each afternoon, students will travel to our Mattapan campus for practical instruction on how to use PPE.

Audience:
This course is designed for EMS, healthcare and public health personnel and is open to anyone serving in the Metro Boston Homeland Security Region of Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Quincy, Revere, Somerville and Winthrop.

Accreditation:
This program was designed to meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, 244 CMR 5.00 for 22.8 contact hours of nursing continuing education.
The approval number for EMT credits in the amount of 19 hours is 125143.
