gREAT pUBLIC sCHOOLS (gps):  dRIVING THE aGENDA

This conference multi-focused approach on advocacy, professionalism, leadership and vision looks to be one of the best training events of 2012.  The focus on building a stronger, member-centered union reflective of our common core values is based on themes revealed during relational conversations conducted throughout the region last year.  This focus is necessary for "Driving the Agenda for Great Public Schools."  Together we will continue the important work of proactively taking command in our continued fight to promote and protect public education.

The conference will consist of four tracks:

Track 1 – Charting Our Course to Collective Action:  Keeping Public Education on the Map
Track 2 – Future Directions: Instructional / Professional Issues
Track 3 – Commanding the Road: Taking Control of the Issues
Track 4 – Back to the Future: Looking Back to Move Forward

Conference Framework

Friday, the annual Presidents Meeting with Executive Officers will be held from 10:00AM - 2:00PM.  A Treasurer’s Training will be offered from 10:00AM – 2:00PM.  See above tabs for details.  In the evening, there will be a reception from 6:00PM - 8:00PM hosted by our Service Center Councils.  Starting at 8:00PM, a State Budget Update and Political Overview will be presented by our CTA School Finance Specialist and Regional Political Organizers.

Saturday will begin with a breakfast buffet and a welcome/general session.  This will be followed by the commencement of each of the four tracks.  Lunch will be followed by Saturday’s keynote speaker, Jonathan Kaplan, Senior Policy Analyst of the California Budget Project. After the keynote address, trainings will resume for the remainder of the day.

Sunday morning begins with a round of electives for all participants.  The conference will conclude with a keynote address by CTA President Dean Vogel, a brunch buffet and prize drawings.

Collectively, we have the power to both frame the educational debate and continue addressing our members' issues at local, regional, state and federal levels.

We look forward to seeing you in San Diego!
