The CTA Good Teaching Conferences are designed to support excellent teaching and learning practices for classroom teachers.  Offering a variety of diverse workshops in curriculum content areas for K-12 teachers, the conferences provide opportunities for professional development and offer time to network and share ideas with colleagues and experts in the field.

Registration starts on Friday and the hours are 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a reception (light meal) and dance beginning at 6:00 p.m. There are four 1.25 hour workshops beginning on Saturday at 9:15 a.m., and end with Caucus Meetings from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday's workshop is scheduled from 8:30-9:45 a.m.; followed by brunch and general session. The conference concludes at 12 noon.

FRIDAY PRE-CONFERENCES
This year we are pleased to offer three different Friday Pre-Conference sessions.  These all day sessions are:

o Deeper Dive into the Common Core State Standards and Assessments
o Taking Charge of Quality: Teachers Making it Happen
o Retirement 101: What Every Educator Needs to Know about 403(b) and 457 Plans - (CTA Members are requested to complete an application for paid release time.  The limit is two members per chapter, one training per person per year, and the application is part of the registration process).

BONUS SESSION -
Laugh & Learn: Money Management Tips for Educators
Jump start  your morning with Rick Rodgers, a Registered Investment Advisor, who works with public sector employees on money management strategies. Rick’s entertaining style will have you laughing while covering the basics of money management, dealing with insurance predators, and saving for retirement in a depressed economy. As a former professional musician, he brings a unique perspective to investment and money management education.  His approach combines creativity with over 24 years of investment knowledge to convey complex information in an easy-to-understand and fun format.  The session will include a multi-media presentation, audience participation and an interactive Q&A for you to ask questions about your personal situation.  Attendees will learn:

  • Investing Fundamentals for Educators
  • Five Simple Steps to Manage Your Investments
  • Understanding What Makes Uncertain Times, Uncertain

If you’ve longed for an opportunity to learn about stocks and bonds, mutual funds, basic economics and how to avoid predators in the financial services industry (in a fun, relaxed environment), you won’t want to miss this session.

All conference fees are due and payable at the time of registration. CTA accepts checks, credit cards and purchase orders. (Check the online registration site for the address for mailing checks and faxing purchase orders.)

CONFERENCE WORKSHOP TOPICS
Workshops begin on Saturday morning and run throughout the day, finishing on Sunday morning.  You will be able to choose sessions on innovative classroom management, educational practices, content development, technology and much, much more.  A large percentage of the workshops are offered more than once.  Here are just a few of the more than 80 different workshops scheduled to be offered.
