The Urban Area Citizen Corps Working Group is excited to offer this year’s conference as an opportunity to enhance networking and expand preparedness skills. We sincerely appreciate your dedication to serve your community as an engaged, proactive volunteer and hope to inspire continued involvement with programs.

Our Objective
To expand core knowledge beyond individual Citizen Corps program.  We hope to widen volunteer opportunities, expand skill sets, facilitate positive interaction, and reduce duplication of services by engaging with associate programs.

Choosing Your Classes
You may choose up to 10 classes.  Only classes with the highest enrollment will be provided at the conference.  Please check back on September 30th for the final class list.  Once enrolled, you may attend any offered class on the day of the conference. Trainers from a variety of organizations will be on hand to share their expertise.

  • Medical Teams International
  • American Red Cross
  • FEMA
  • Public Health
  • Volunteer Organizations
  • Fire Departments
  • Law Enforcement Agencies and more!

Pre-Conference Activities
The following pre-conference activities are available concurrently.  These classes have limited space – register early to ensure your seat!  Please be advised you will NOT be able to attend both.

  • CERT Train-the-Trainer (October 22-24) - REGISTRATION FOR THIS CLASS IS CLOSED
  • VIPS and Disaster Response (October 24)

If you check the box that you plan to attend either of these pre-conference activities, you WILL be registered for the class and expected to attend.

Networking and Welcome Event (including pre-conference check-in!)

The networking event on Friday, October 24th is an excellent opportunity to showcase your project, program or items that may benefit other Citizen Corps Partner Programs.

Bring all necessary information for partners to duplicate your program (as well as any challenges, pit falls or suggestions - vendor names and contact information, costs of the program, CDs and any other applicable items).

This will also be an opportunity to check-in for the conference and avoid the early morning rush!

You Make The Difference
Classes offered will increase the level of cooperation between Citizen Corps programs and allow participants to gain a better understanding of operations, objectives and training provided to associate programs.

First Responders realize that citizens are an extremely valuable and often untapped resource who with minimal safety training can mean the difference between life and death.  “There are so many roles citizens can play, from direct provision of traffic safety and medical care – to the extremely important role of emotional first aid” - Alice Lasher, Sandy Fire District

It is citizens like yourself who possess professional training, expertise and education and the desire to step forward in your community’s time of need, who will make the difference during a disaster

Preparedness, Mitigation, Response and Recovery are all included in this conference – The planning committee welcomes your comments after registering, please feel free to contact Alice at sfd72fmo@hotmail.com or call 503-668-2728

Due to the nature of many of the professional presenters – if there is a large scale disaster some instructors may be called to duty and unable to attend the conference – all efforts will be made to locate a replacement speaker.
