14th Annual Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society Meeting
Tuesday, March 10, 2009 7:00 AM - Friday, March 13, 2009 11:00 PM (Mountain Time)
Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center 650 15th Street Denver, CO 80202 USA
Map and Directions
Through a
combination of lectures, case studies, symposiums, panels discussions, and team
based learning participants will learn about basic science of human movement;
technological advances; clinical application of these advances including the
use of gait analysis in treatment decision-making; and research that enhances
the diagnosis and treatment of persons with movement disorders.
Upon
completion of this program, the participant should be able to:
-
To
promote the advancement of scientific knowledge in the area of gait and motion
analysis—to learn which treatment/combination of treatments (surgery, drug
therapy, braces, etc) or new treatments are most effective in improving a
patient’s functional movement.
- To
stimulate scientific inquiry in the area of clinical gait and motion
analysis—questions/challenges that arise in the clinical setting can be
addressed with scientific/evidence based research, which can stimulate new
questions, but ultimately provide new ideas/practices for more effective
patient care. For example: Is a hinged ankle-foot orthosis the
best choice for all children with cerebral palsy?
-
To
promote the critique of current advances in the area of gait and clinical
movement analysis: determining if the current or proposed clinical
practices, techniques and interpretations are the most effective and highest
quality in the provision of care for patients with movement disorders. For
example: Is the current calculation of hip rotation truly representative of
femoral anteversion as seen in x-rays?
-
To
provide a forum for professional communication and interchange that will
facilitate improved patient care. For
example: how can dynamic electromyography best be used in the
determination of the cause of movement problems?
- To
promote the integration of technical advances and clinical application in the
area of gait and motion analysis. For example: We have a state-of-the
art system that measures distribution of foot pressures during walking. How can
we best use this information to make treatment decisions, such as
orthotics/braces/surgery?
The
University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine designates this educational
activity for a maximum of 22 AMA PRA
Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians
should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in
the activity.
