What is Farm to School?

Farm to School programs bring healthy food from local farms into school cafeterias and educate students about nutrition through experiential activities, such as school gardens and farm field trips.

A national Farm to School movement is rapidly gaining momentum due to concern for our children’s health, the vitality of our farm economy and the negative environmental impact of transporting food long distances.

Help make Farm to School a reality in Arkansas by participating in the first Arkansas Farm to School Conference!

Together we can raise a generation of healthy Arkansans who are connected to and nourished by our local food system.

Who should participate?

Arkansas Farmers (preference given to those with 200 acres or less)

      Arkansas Farmers’ Market Managers

Arkansas School Personnel – Public and Private

o        Child Nutrition Directors (Food Service Directors)

o        Nutrition Educators (teachers, school nurses, parent volunteers, etc.)

o        Other school personnel (food service workers, administrators, etc.)

Arkansans working in the fields of agriculture, education or child health

Anyone interested in helping build a Farm to School program in Arkansas

*  Due to space constraints and the desire to achieve the broadest representation, the number of representatives per organization, per geographic area and per stakeholder group will be limited.  Most organizations will be limited to one representative.  Additional representatives may be waitlisted pending space availability.  Your application will be reviewed using these criteria before being accepted.  Starting September 23, 2009 applicants we be notified if their applications have been accepted or put on a waiting list.
