Demystifying Compensation Analysis, Part II

Universities and private employers are often unaware of the value of compensation studies until they face regulatory or legal challenges. Labor economists with extensive experience in compensation analysis continue to guide you through the fundamental principles of pay equity analysis using real world illustrations. Drs. Baker, Thornton and Amidon will provide a more in-depth look at multiple regression analysis of compensation to better understand how a sound statistical model is developed.

Using real-world examples in a university setting, you will learn how to:

    • determine the explanatory power of the regression model;
    • identify and measure factors that influence pay;
    • understand the concept of “tainted” variables;
    interpret “pooled” and “un-pooled” models; and
    • identify employees with pay that may be out of line with your pay
      structure.

In addition, the labor economists will answer your questions regarding compensation analyses.

About Our Presenters

Mary Dunn Baker, Janet R. Thornton and Carrie M. Amidon are Ph.D. economists at ERS Group whose practices focus on labor and employment issues. Together these experts have over 50 years of experience conducting and evaluating statistical analyses of employment discrimination issues.  In addition to analyzing employment practices for litigation support and testifying as expert witnesses in federal courts and other judicial settings, they estimate the value of alleged economic losses and work with public and private organizations to design programs to monitor the outcomes of employment decision-making processes.  These experts have extensive experience in the preparation of compensation analyses to respond to allegations of discrimination brought by government agencies and private plaintiffs.  Dr. Baker has presented seminars on pay analyses before numerous organizations including The Florida Bar, the American Association for Affirmative Action, and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance (OFCCP).  Dr. Thornton is a frequent presenter at ERS Group seminars, and has published articles in journals such as Journal of Legal Economics and the Journal of Forensic Economics.  Dr. Amidon has published articles in the Illinois Business Review, and was the managing editor for the Illinois Statistical Abstract
