2010 HVLA Techniques for Spinal Manipulation: Module I
Friday, March 12, 2010 8:00 AM - Saturday, March 13, 2010 5:00 PM (Pacific Time)
USC Health Sciences Campus 1540 Alcazar Street CHP Building, Room G4 (ground floor of building) Los Angeles, CA 90033 United States
Map and Directions
This course serves as an introduction to High Velocity Low Amplitude thrust (HVLA) techniques that can be used in the treatment of spinal pain and dysfunction. High Velocity Low Amplitude (HVLA) thrust procedures take place when the practitioner applies a rapid thrust that is accompanied by a “popping” or “cracking” sound. The aim of these manipulation techniques is to achieve joint cavitation. In order to become proficient in HVLA techniques, practitioners must train and develop their palpatory and psychomotor skills. The instructors will provide a rationale for the use of HVLA techniques and provide a solid foundation for the principles of spinal positioning and locking. Module I is designed to allow the novice to acquire the basic skills of HVLA techniques. Module II is designed to allow more experienced practitioners to refine their techniques. Both courses emphasize significant time in the lab learning and practicing HVLA techniques.
Module I: March 12th-13th, 2010
Introduction to Grade V mobilization techniques. No previous experience is required.
At the completion of Module 1, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the current best evidence relating to spinal manipulative therapy (SMT).
- Describe the risks and benefits of SMT.
- List absolute and relative contraindications of SMT.
- Discuss the evidence supporting the use and interpretation of clinical tests for Vertebrobasilar insufficiency (VBI) & upper cervical instability.
- Discuss the rationale for the use of HVLA thrust techniques.
- Describe and demonstrate the spinal positioning and locking in different regions of the spine necessary to ensure patient comfort, safety and the effective delivery of HVLA thrust techniques
* If you register for both Modules I and II from the Module I registration, your confirmation will indicate that you are only registered for Module I. However, you will be registered for both modules.
Cost:
Individual Registration for Module I :$495
Individual Registration for Modules I and II: $950
