Course Description
This course is designed for the physical therapist who seeks to learn and refine the observational and manual skills necessary for the examination and management of patients with shoulder disorders. Participants will read pre-assigned articles to maximize the effectiveness of lecture, lab and discussion time. Discussion will focus on medical screening, the usefulness of manual examination, and the indications and outcomes for manual interventions. The majority of the course will be spent in lab instruction and practice time, to allow time for acquisition of motor skills. The participant will utilize techniques learned in this course immediately.

This course can accommodate multiple levels (both entry level and advanced).
Course Objectives
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Perform appropriate examinations for systemic causes of shoulder pain/ dysfunction.
- Review functional anatomy and biomechanics of the shoulder complex and its relationship to the trunk and thoracic spine.
- Evaluate current evidence regarding shoulder special tests.
- Demonstrate functional evaluation and treatment techniques for a variety of shoulder/scapular dysfunctions (impingement, instability, adhesive capsulitis, and scapular syndromes).
- Describe and implement safe and appropriate evidence based functional UE rehabilitation strategies.
