Special Guest - Former Assistant Secretary of Education, Diane Ravitch
Diane Ravitch is Research Professor of Education at New York University. She is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institutuion in Washington, D.C.
She shares a blog called "Bridging Differences" with Deborah Meier, hosted by Education Week. She also blogs occasionally for Forbes.com and is a regular contributor to the Huffingtonpost.com. Her articles have appeared in many newspapers and magazines. Diane has authored numerous books on Education Reform and her upcoming book, "The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice are Undermining Education," is due out in March 2010.

URBAN ISSUES CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
Friday, February 26 to Sunday, February 28
Urban and suburban schools are faced with meeting the diverse needs of students, including when funds are very limited. The goal of the CTA Urban Issues Conference is to provide participants the opportunities to promote the interests of quality public education through powerful dialogues and effective elective sessions. This conference will focus on sharing tools and best practices by our members and staff who work in urban and suburban settings using dialogue as a powerful tool for change. Join your colleagues as we build on our own successful models to impact the future of urban education.
CONFERENCE REGISTRATION
The conference fee for participants is $85.00 per participant. Included in the conference registration are all materials and handouts, a light buffet meal and cocktails at the Friday evening reception, breakfast and lunch on Saturday and a breakfast brunch on Sunday.
HOTEL RATE & RESERVATIONS
In order to receive the CTA contracted hotel rate of $122.00 plus tax per night, for single or double occupancy, you must make your hotel reservation by February 8, 2010. A 10% occupany fee and $2 per room, per day Business District tax will be added to your room charge.

If you prefer, you may call the Fairmont Reservation Number at 1-800-441-1414. Ask for the CTA Urban Issues rate when you call. To ensure space and rate ($122.00 plus tax) you must register by February 8, 2010.
All expenses for accommodations are the responsibility of the individual, the chapter, Service Center Council, or the UniServ unit.
Parking
Parking at the Fairmont is available by valet only. Valet parking cost $26.00 per night. Hourly prices range from $5 USD for the first half-hour, $1.50 each additional twenty minutes with a maximum of $26 USD. There are also several parking lots in the downtown area that offer discount parking after 6pm on Friday and all day on the weekend. TRANSPORTATION

CTA will reimburse the following transportation costs for five (5) members from each UniServ unit. All other transporation costs are the responsibility of the individual, the chapter, Service Center Council, or the UniServ unit.
AIR
Reimbursement is based on the most economical coach round-trip airfare, purchased at least 21 days in advance. Participants may fly into the Norman Y. Mineta Internation Airport in Sah Jose . See the online registration confirmation information for details on the available United Airlines discounts.
AUTOMOBILE
Mileage will be reimbursed at the IRS rate of reimbursement per mile, not to exceed the cost of the most economical coach airfare. Currently the IRS rate is 55 cents per mile.
There will be no reimbursement for the cost of airport and hotel parking, hotel expenses, shuttle or taxi service, or travel between home and the local airport, unless the round-trip distance between your home and nearest airport is more than 100 miles.
SHUTTLE SERVICE
Super Shutltle is avaiable from the San Jose Airport at a cost of $20 - $25.
All other transportation costs are the responsibility of the individual, the chapter, Service Center Council, or the UniServ unit.
UNIVERSITY CREDIT AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
University Credit is now available online from California State University Chico Department of Education. At least one (1) semester unit of credit is available for full attendance at each conference. The cost is $60.00 per unit and is payable by check or credit card. Please follow the instructions below to apply online.

At the conclusion of the conference, and upon verification of your full conference attendance by CTA, the units will be posted to your official academic transcript. Instructions for ordering transcripts are available on the web at: http://em.csuchico.edu/sro// .
Professional Growth credit will be available, and will be awarded based on the number of workshop(s) attended.
