Re: Houston Energy Workshops for Educators – November 12
Shell and NEED have partnered to provide middle school and high school educators in Houston with curriculum and training opportunities, and are pleased to announce the upcoming one-day energy classroom workshop to be held November 12 at the Houston Museum of Natural Science in Houston. This workshop presents a unique opportunity for classroom teachers (6-12) to learn about energy – forms of energy, energy resources, energy uses, and energy efficiency. Participants will also tour the Wiess Energy Hall and receive resources from the HMNS.
Participation in this workshop provides educators with their choice of a Science of Energy Kit or an Energy Management for Schools Kit that teaches about energy transformations and energy efficiency through hands-on activities. In addition, participants will learn about energy careers and workforce development opportunities for students considering career pathways after school.
Thanks to the support of Shell, there is no cost to attend the workshop. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Substitute costs will be reimbursed to school districts and substitute reimbursement forms will be provided upon completion of the workshop. Substitute reimbursement and free energy education kits are only available to those participants that attend the entire workshop. If your district has a question about reimbursement, contact NEED at 1-800-875-5029.
The NEED Project designs and delivers teacher-tested educational materials, evaluation techniques and tools, recognition of student achievement, and professional development for educators. NEED materials and training programs provide comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and the sources of energy – their use and their impact on the environment, the economy and society. All NEED learning activities are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
