Overview of Washington State Supreme-Court established Access to Justice Board and the Alliance for Equal Justice:
“Access to Justice is a Fundamental Right”
9:30 – 11:00 PLENARY: Pro Bono Opportunities
Panelists will present a broad range of options and models for those interested in engaging in pro bono work.
11:00 – 11:15 BREAK
11:15 – 12:30 PLENARY: Serving Clients Respectfully Panelists will address inclusion, diversity and cross-difference professional competency needed to serve clients who face mental and physical disabilities, cultural, linguistic, poverty-related and other obstacles and barriers to equal justice.
12:30 – 1:45 LUNCH and Pro Bono Fair
Pro Bono providers will be available to provide participants with specific information about pro bono opportunities.
1:45 – 3:00 BREAK-OUT CONCURRENT SESSIONS: Choose one of:
I Volunteer 3Rs: recruitment, retention, recognition; using social networking tools to boost volunteer recruitment & utilization;
II Pro Bono Nitty Gritty: professional liability, office space, retainer agreements, keeping files, reporting pro bono activities;
III Professionalism and Ethics Considerations Pro Bono Service as a Hallmark of Professional Responsibility:
IV Review of applicable Rules of Professional Conduct, professional liability-related issues, Washington State’s Emeritus Pro Bono Program
3:00 – 3:15 BREAK
3:15 – 5:00 PLENARY: The Burgeoning Crisis:
Addressing the unmet civil legal needs of society’s poorest and most vulnerable populations while developing concrete legal practice skills and leadership capacities.
5:00 – 7:00 RECEPTION
