Recovering America's Youth Summit: Dallas
Tuesday, December 01, 2009 - Wednesday, December 02, 2009
The Gaylord Texan Convention Center 1501 Gaylord Trail Grapevine, TX 76051
Map and Directions
In 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) made an
unprecedented investment in our nation's public workforce system to
yield a more vitalized and innovative system capable of helping enable
future economic growth and advancing shared prosperity for all
Americans. From the ARRA investment, $1.2 billion was made available
for WIA Youth activities with a focus on summer youth employment
opportunities and an emphasis on "green" educational and career
pathways.
To meet the needs of the public workforce system, the U.S. Department
of Labor, Employment and Training Administration's Division of Youth
Services has been providing "quick response" support and technical
assistance to states and local areas facing challenges with the
implementation of Recovery Act support through on-site coaching, video
and teleconferencing, facilitation of partnerships and peer-to-peer
sharing opportunities, and development of service delivery strategies.
The Recovering America's Youth Summit will share the
findings and lessons learned from ETA's involvement with the summer
employment programs and focus on building the capacity of state and
local areas to serve older out-of-school youth, ages 18-24, in
year-round activities. In addition, the Summit will discuss the
integration of strategies to develop training and employment
opportunities for youth in emerging industries.
