The NEED Project’s mission is to promote an energy conscious and educated society. NEED is the nation’s leading provider of energy education programs and materials to schools. All NEED learning activities are correlated to the New York State Learning Standards and many others. The program will make teaching energy fun and exciting as you return to your classroom.

Participation in this workshop provides educators with free, hands-on classroom kits that teach about energy efficiency, conservation, and our energy sources.  In addition, participating teachers will be provided with Home Energy Efficiency Kits to send home with students to their families.  Together, the families install energy efficiency and conservation measures – shower flow bags, outlet gasket insulators, faucet aerators, water-saving shower heads, and other tools.  Materials provide structure for students to work with their families to save energy and integrate their efforts with a classroom activity.

Thanks to National Fuel sponsorship, there is no cost to attend the workshop. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Substitute costs will be reimbursed to school districts and substitute reimbursement forms will be provided at the workshop.

The NEED program includes teacher-tested educational materials, evaluation techniques and tools, recognition of student achievement, and professional development for educators. NEED materials and training programs provide comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and the sources of energy – their use and their impact on the environment, the economy and society.
