Map and Directions
Sun Microsystems welcomes you to the HPC Software Workshop 2009 and Advanced Seminars in beautiful Regensburg. It's an opportunity for users to get answers, advice, and suggestions regarding their specific implementations, and to share their insights with colleagues.
Workshop Overview
This three day workshop contains three tracks with Sun and Customer presentations around Grid Engine, Open Storage (including Lustre and SAM-QFS), and software Development Tools such as Sun Studio and Sun HPC ClusterTools. Talks will range from general to very detailed engineering topics. At times in the schedule the three tracks will merge into one track for specific plenary sessions that have a general interest; for example, a detailed talk on Sun’s HPC Stack would be a plenary session. All Workshop sessions are open to all attendees regardless of track chosen; you may choose the Grid Engine track and also attend sessions on Sun HPC ClusterTools, for example. The conference will begin at 9am on Tuesday and end at 1pm on Thursday.
The Grid Engine track will be the Grid Engine community meeting for 2009. We'll talk about the progress we've made in the last year, how our community members are using Grid Engine today, where we're planning to go in the future, and whatever tips, tricks, best practices, cool projects, and stories from the trenches our community members want to share. The Grid Engine track is your opportunity to meet with the engineering and product teams directly and to have a voice in the future of the Grid Engine project, as well as to meet face-to-face with other members of the Grid Engine community.
The Lustre talks in the Open Storage track offer learning for new technical information, acquiring best practices, and sharing knowledge about Lustre technology. It is an opportunity for users to get answers, advice, and suggestions regarding their specific Lustre implementations. Attendees will have access to experts and peers who will share their real-world experiences and updates on community development projects, as well as discuss upcoming enhancements and capabilities. Other topics in the Open Storage track will be Sun Open Storage and other Sun open filesystems such as ZFS and SAM-QFS.
The Development Tools track covers end-to-end the process of developing and deploying applications and services in HPC and cloud computing environments, including Sun HPC ClusterTools and Sun Studio software. Sun ClusterTools is an
integrated toolkit that allows developers to create and tune
Message-passing Interface (MPI) applications that run on high
performance clusters and SMPs. Sun Studio software delivers a high-performance, optimizing C, C++, and Fortran developer toolchain for Solaris, OpenSolaris, and Linux operating systems, including support for multicore x86- and SPARC-based systems. The toolchain includes parallelizing compilers, code-level and memory debuggers, performance and thread analysis tools, OpenMP and MPI support as well as optimized math libraries. Other topics in this track will include advanced language research for HPC and cloud computing technologies. This track offers the opportunity to meet up with other code slingers from Sun and the greater HPC and cloud communities to share best practices and stories from the trenches.
Advanced Seminars
On Monday September 7th, the day before the HPC Software Workshop, three advanced seminars will be offered. The cost of the Advanced Seminars is in addition to the HPC Software Workshop.
A special Lustre Advanced Technical Seminar is offered with senior Lustre engineers. They will discuss areas of the product they are working in and take questions and provide answers around tuning, configuration, and debugging.
An HPC Parallel Programming Seminar will teach aspects of parallel computing as well as providing a good understanding of the basics of the MPI and OpenMP programming models. Some basic understanding of C or Fortran will be helpful, but it is not a requirement.
The Grid Engine Advanced Seminar will be a training class for Sun Grid Engine administrators who want to learn about administration facilities, expert configurations and best practices for complex use case scenarios. The class will be conducted by Sun Grid Engine experts and engineers.
Both the Advanced Seminars and HPC Workshop include lunch all days. There will be a gala reception for attendees on Tuesday night. Click DOWNLOAD to get the latest updated agenda, including optional tours and festivities.
