Contractors are required to be lead-certified
for the EPA/HUD Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP)
You play an important role in preventing lead poisoning.
Are you ready?

All firms that perform renovation, repair or painting work on pre-1978 homes and child occupied facilities are required to become EPA certified. Louisiana firms must submit an application and fee payment to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Others may submit applications to their designated state agency, if the state has an EPA-authorized program. The application is online at www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/firmapp.pdf .

Firms must also have at least one “certified renovator” on the job site where lead-based paint is disturbed. To become a certified renovator, the individual must successfully complete the Lead Certified Renovator Training course conducted by an EPA-accredited provider and pass the exam.. The full course is eight hours; a four hour refresher course is acceptable for those who previously completed the EPA Lead Safe Work Practices course.

NOTICE:  EPA had extended the deadline for individual renovators until December 31st, 2010 to become Lead Certified Renovators. From this point thereafter, all paid contractors, maintenance workers, painters and others performing renovation, repair and painting projects not in compliance with the EPA Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule (RRP) are subject to penalties.   For more information about the EPA compliance policies, click here.
