Frequently Asked Questions
What is the registration procedure for academic credit? How much more does it cost?
The Summer Institute is approved for one (1) graduate credit from the University of Minnesota, priced at $105. That amount is in addition to the $75 or $175 you will pay when you register through this site. Everyone, regardless of whether they are receiving CEU or academic credit, needs to fill out the online registration form linked to this page and pay the $75 or $175 fee. If you are interested in academic credit, you can indicate that on this registration form, and you will be asked to complete a second registration for academic credit. You are only fully registered for academic credit after you decide to fill out a second registration with the U of M and pay their fees.
How many and what kind of CEUs are offered?
An application for 12 Teacher CEUs has been submitted. We will also provide an attendance certificate for 12 clock hours that you can use to apply for CEUs in your profession (i.e., Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Speech-Language-Hearing).
Why does it cost more for non-Minnesotans to register? What is the registration policy for non-Minnesotans?
The Minnesota Early Intervention Summer Institute is primarily intended for Minnesota residents. Minnesota residents are guaranteed participation in the conference as long as they register by one month before the first day of the Institute. Out- of-state participants are welcome to register on the understanding that their registration may be canceled if the Institute is full and we need to make room for Minnesota residents. In the unlikely event that we would need to cancel a registration, the out-of-state registrant would receive a full refund of the registration fee and written notice of the cancellation from the Summer Institute. All out-of-state registrants will receive written confirmation of their registration three weeks prior to the Institute, and after that notification their registrations will not be canceled.
How can I pay for my registration?
The following forms of payment are accepted:
- Check--an invoice with payment instructions is automatically generated after registration is completed. You are responsible for printing this invoice and mailing it with payment.
- Purchase Order with Check--an invoice with payment instructions and a PO number (if entered during registration) is automatically generated after registration is completed. Please do not send your PO to CEED--that is for your organization's internal use. Please do print the regonline invoice and submit it to your organization for payment.
- Credit Card (Visa or MasterCard)
What lodging is included in the registration fee?
Two (2) nights in a single-sex, double-occupancy dorm room (Sunday, June 14-Tuesday, June 16, 2009). Rooms are air-conditioned with shared bathrooms. You can indicate on the registration form if you only need one night of lodging, but your fee will remain the same. You have the option to upgrade to a single room and/or add another night at additional cost--see below. You have the option of indicating a preferred roommate on your registration form.
Can I bring my husband/child/other friend or family and have him or her stay with me in the dorms?
This is a possibility, however please note that this event is not set up to provide activities for guests who aren't registered for the event. Your family member(s) will need to buy their own meals in the cafeteria, and they will need to find things to do during the day while you are in sessions. In other words, while St. John's will certainly welcome your family, we, the organizers, recommend that you consider this is not an event that is geared towards the whole family.
If you do decide to bring someone who's not registered for the conference to stay with you in the dorms, please check the appropriate box in the "lodging" section, and you'll be contacted with further information.
The registration says single-sex dorms are included. Can I have an opposite-sex roommate?
Accomodations are available for mixed-sex, however you will need to contact Sara Zettervall at sarazet@umn.edu or 612-625-2252 to alert her that you have a request for a special housing situation.
What's the cost of lodging other than 2 nights in a double room (e.g., additional night, upgrade to single room)?
$35 = additional night in a double room
$20 = upgrade your 2 included nights to a single room
$45 = additional night in a single room (must also upgrade the 2 included nights, for a total of $65)
You can add these options towards the end of the online registration form.
Are scholarships available?
All Minnesota residents who register essentially receive a scholarship from the Minnesota Department of Education, whose grant covers most of the expenses. No additional scholarships are available.
