ON-LINE ABCs of Air Conditioning Course

 The ABC's of Air Conditioning

Course Description

This program will teach anyone the principles that underlie present-day heating and air conditioning equipment, both residential and commercial.

What is Air Conditioning?
According to ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, "Air conditioning is the process of treating air so as to control simultaneously its temperature, humidity, cleanliness and distribution to meet the requirements of the conditioned space."

When air conditioning is mentioned, people usually think about cooling. But by ASHRAE's definition, you can see that air conditioning is a lot more than cooling. It includes cooling and heating of air; humidifying and dehumidifying; purifying and distributing. All of these functions are important. Systems like this variable-speed system are rapidly increasing in popularity because they address all these needs in a coordinated manner.

Indoor Air Quality

In recent years, the interest in indoor air quality (IAQ) has increased sharply. Indoor air quality focuses on the cleanliness, or purity, of indoor air. This has increased the demand for improved filtration through the use of electronic air cleaners and high-efficiency media filters. In addition, humidity mitigation (reduction), especially at partial cooling load, and germicidal lamps are increasingly important to avoid indoor air contamination caused by microbial growth, including mold, mildew and bacteria. Finally, the mechanical introduction of outdoor air (ventilation) is being used increasingly for tight homes as a means of diluting contaminants and replenishing oxygen.

Process/Comfort  Air Conditioning
Air conditioning is often used to improve an industrial process or to maintain human comfort. When it is used to improve an industrial process, the focus is to facilitate the industrial process involved such as a textile manufacturing process. This application of air conditioning is called "process air conditioning." When it is used to maintain human comfort it is called "comfort air conditioning." This program is limited to comfort air conditioning.

Health & Comfort
This program will help you understand how air is treated by air conditioning equipment to maintain our health and comfort. We'll cover the principles of air conditioning and look at various types of air-conditioning equipment.

The 5 major sections of this program are:
    1. Body Comfort
    2. The Air Cycle
    3. The Refrigeration Cycle
    4. The Heat Pump
    5. Air Conditioning Equipment

The cost of this class is: $35.00
