Concept

Ultrasound is essential in today’s practice of obstetrics and gynecology, both in the hospital and office setting. This innovative course is designed specifically for physicians, midwives, and obstetrical nurses to improve their ultrasound skills. The course includes lectures regarding basic ultrasound concepts and a hands-on ultrasound lab with real patients allowing participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge. This is not a course to grant certification in obstetrical ultrasound. To become adept with ultrasound takes practice!  At the course you will learn good technique allowing you to know what and how to practice.

Objectives

  • Explain which buttons on the machine are important and how to use them
  • Demonstrate how to image, measure, and evaluate the uterus, tubes, and ovaries
  • Identify normal pelvic structures
  • Describe how  3D imaging should be incorporated into the gynecologic examination
  • State which CPT and ICD-9 codes are appropriate to use for gynecologic ultrasound

The program director, Dr. Jan Watson, completed a fellowship in OBGYN ultrasound at King's College Hospital in London, England.  She has over 20 years experience in performing and teaching OBGYN ultrasound and is a practicing obstetrician gynecologist and reproductive geneticist.
