Welcome to LBW's Community Mentoring Program: In keeping with its mission to support peace and prosperity in our public schools, LBW is launching an innovative community mentoring program in partnership with Chicago Public Schools. Chicago Public Schools Volunteer Registration Packet A bold initiative to match League of Black Women professional women to mentor 6th-8th grade students from Chicago Public Schools. The Mentors will focus on offering the Mentees support and encouragement aimed at enhancing the Mentees knowledge, skills and confidence to reach their full life potential.
Mentors will serve as positive role models to the students and show them wonder by wonder their unlimited potential through possibilities of goal setting, hard work, perseverance and joyful dreaming. The Mentor/Mentee Partnership will be a shared learning endeavor and incorporate aspects of the following life experiences: to research/explore career options based on their individual interests. 2. Coaching – Instruction, training or sharing wisdom. 3. Educational –All learning endeavors to encourage lifelong learning. 4. Fun- “Joyful living” 5. Healthy Living – Focus on making good choices for the mind & body. 6. Leadership- Sharing real life experiences of taking charge. 7. Life Skills Development-Experiential exposure to strategic everyday living. 8. Physical Fitness- Movement for physical resilience. The Mentor/Mentee relationship requires a one year mutual commitment with a pledge to provide time, energy and support. Pairs meet at least once a month in a safe environment to participate in enrichment activities. For the Mentors’ rewarding services, the Mentors will be recognized by the Chair of the Chicago Board of Education. The Mentors will be profiled on the LBW website and receive a big hug from a young girl who will be forever grateful for the day the Mentors paused in the midst of their professional commitments, walked into the Mentees life and invited the Mentee into theirs.
