OBJECTIVES:
- Define Pharmacodynamics, which includes the desired and side effects of what a drug does to the body
- Define Pharmacokinetics, which is how a drug moves throughout the body. This includes discussion on dosing, route of administration, and elimination of the drug
- Discuss what sedative/hypnotics do and how they affect sleep
- Associate the impact of anti-depressants on sleep
- Associate the impact of stimulants on sleep
- Recognize the impact of other pharmaceutical drugs on sleep including recreational and over-the-counter drugs
- Recognize the impact of caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, on sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness or insomnia
