Description

Introduction ​to ​the ​Horse ​is ​an ​online ​course ​designed ​to ​familiarize ​the ​student ​with ​basic ​information ​about ​horses. ​ ​This ​includes ​sections ​on ​health ​and ​nutrition, ​behavior, ​breeds, ​colors, ​different ​styles ​of ​riding ​and ​tack ​and ​groundwork. ​ ​The ​course ​is ​laid ​out ​in ​multiple ​modules ​that ​can ​be ​completed ​at ​the ​student's ​own ​pace ​with ​quizzes ​to ​assess ​knowledge ​at ​the ​end ​of ​each ​section. ​ ​Some ​sections ​also ​include ​written ​feedback ​exercises. ​ ​The ​student ​also ​has ​the ​option ​of ​attending ​labs ​at ​the ​University ​of ​Minnesota ​Equine ​Center ​where ​live ​horses ​are ​used ​to ​review ​the ​information ​provided ​in ​the ​modules. ​Students ​can ​sign ​up ​for ​the ​live ​labs ​separately. ​ ​Success ​completion ​of ​the ​course ​entitles ​the ​student ​to ​a ​certificate ​of ​completion ​from ​the ​University ​of ​Minnesota ​Equine ​Center, ​part ​of ​the ​VPM ​department ​of ​the ​College ​of ​Veterinary ​Medicine.
