Official Set of Rules
All State, Federal and IGFA Fishing Rules and Regulations apply to this tournament. This Tournament is Catch and Release Only. This Tournament is based on a point structure for every fish caught and released. The points are solely based on the eligible fish species. All Cash prizes are based on the total accumulated points for the duration of the tournament. All Participants are required to have an inshore license issued by the state.
This is a Captain’s choice tournament. Decisions to fish or not to fish will be at the discretion of the captain. If you choose not to fish, you will forfeit your entry fee. FISH AT YOUR OWN RISK.
2. Species Eligible: Striped Bass, Bluefish, Bonito and False Albacore.
All fish caught during the tournament must be within the state legal size minimum length or the specific listed below minimum length to be eligible for points. These limits are to help conserve and protect the future of our fishery.
A. Minimum length Striper: 28 inches.
B. Minimum length Atlantic Bonito: 21 inches
C. Minimum length False Albacore: 25 inches
D. Minimum length Bluefish: 22 inches
You must release fish that are not minimum lengths for each category. Please check updated regulations on the NMFS website.
3. Catch and Release Format:
A. All fish caught must be measured using an approved device with a picture.
B. Pictures must be clear and include the entire fish on a flat surface with the measuring device visible on top of fish.
C. The camera used for capturing photos must be time stamped with correct date and time.
D. If any of the above stated are not correct or visible, your fish will be disqualified.
E. All species length will be measured in 1/2” increments from the tip of the snout to the tip of the tail. Check the State rules for proper way to measure each fish species prior to start of the tournament.
4. Point Structure:
A. Striper: 5 points per fish
B. Atlantic Bonito: 3 points per fish
C. False Albacore: 3 points per fish
D. Bluefish: 1 point per fish
5. Fishing Methods/Rules: This is a rod and reel only tournament.
A. Entrants may fish from private boats, as clients on charter boats, or with guides. All participants must be registered prior to fishing.
B. All commercial/charter fishing vessels that compete in this tournament must comply with recreational boat fishing guidelines. This rule is in effect solely to make the tournament fair for all participating parties.
C. Live bait is permitted.
D. Prohibited: Wire line, green sticks, chumming, chunking or any other form of fishing gear besides rod and reel.
E. All boats must meet U.S. Coast Guard Requirements and are the sole responsibility of the boat owner.
F. The following situation will disqualify a catch. “Mutilation to the fish, prior to landing or boating the catch, caused by sharks, other fish, mammals or propellers that remove or penetrate the flesh.” Injuries caused by leader or line, scratches, old healed scars or regeneration of deformities are not considered to be disqualifying injuries.
G. Boundaries- 3 Miles from shore. This is the state law for catching Striper.
H. Fishing Hours: Lines in at 7:30am and lines out 3:00pm for both days. If you are currently fighting a fish, you may pass the lines out time but you must radio the committee boat.
I. There will be no transfer of fish from one boat to another.
All protests must be in writing and handed to the Tournament Director prior to 5:30. All protests must be accompanied by $100 in cash (to be returned if the protest is upheld). In the event that more than one boat signs the protest, each boat will provide $100 (to be returned if the protest is upheld). All team members will agree with the final decision of the Tournament Director.
7. AWARDS & PRIZES:
A. 1st Place: $3,000*
The boat with the highest total combined points for both days of fishing will win cash prize and the 1st place custom trophy.
B. 2nd Place: $2,500*
The boat with the Second highest total combined points for both days of fishing will win the cash prize along with 2nd place custom trophy.
C. 3rd Place: $1,500*
The boat with the third highest total combined points for both days of fishing will win the cash prize along with a 3rd place custom trophy.
*This Cash Prize Structure is based on 20 Boat Entries.
If any boats tie in total points accumulated throughout the tournament, the tie breaker will go to the boat that landed and recorded their last catch first. This will be for the Tournament Committee and Director to review and decide. All decisions from the Director are final.
The rules that govern this tournament are the rules. Any changes made to these rules will be distributed at least one week prior to the start of the tournament. Once the tournament starts there will be no changes to the rules and the tournament will be fished under the agreed upon rules.
