The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Chamber Foundation (NCF), and The Progress & Freedom Foundation are co-hosting an event exploring the highly divisive issue of immigration.  This forum will provide an opportunity for experts to discuss the need for an increase in foreign workers into the U.S. and to counter anecdotal claims that immigrants are a drain on the economy.

The event will begin with a conference call with Jason Riley, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board to discuss his recently released book “Let them In: The Case for Open Borders” and answer any questions from attendees or callers. The call will be moderated by Bret Swanson, Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for Global Innovation of the Progress & Freedom Foundation.

A panel discussion will immediately follow the conference call. Panelists include:

  • Elizabeth Dickson, Manager, Immigration Services, Ingersoll-Rand Company and Chair of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Subcommittee on Immigration
  • Jacob Funk Kirkegaard, Research Associate, The Peterson Institute
  • Jason Riley, Member, Editorial Board, Wall Street Journal
  • James Sherk, Bradley Fellow, Labor Policy, The Heritage Foundation
  • Jenifer Verdery, Director of Workforce Policy, Intel Corporation

There will be a networking reception led by Bill Little, President and CEO, Quam-Nichols Company, and Chairman of the Board for the National Chamber Foundation. The reception will include a book signing with Jason Riley. Riley’s book was recently selected by NCF as one of 2008’s top ten “Books that Drive the Debate.”

Registration will be from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The conference call will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. followed by the program from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A networking reception and book signing will conclude the event and will be from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
