Bingai
Doc Title in English 1Bingai
Genre 1Documentary
Synopsis 1With the completion of the Three Gorges Dam, now under construction, 1.13 million people along the Yangtze River will have been dislocated. The majority of them are farmers. Bingai features one woman farmer who refuses to move away from her village. The audience will follow her seven-year struggle with officials who pressure her to relocate, while a strong devotion to her land compels her to remain in the place she calls home. “I am not making this documentary to promote environmental causes or to investigate human rights issues. My characters must be put in a larger picture, in the context of a long history as lengthy as the Yangtse River. Their lives are indeed twisted by circumstances often beyond their control and strongly affected by the hands of authorities. Nevertheless they uphold a sense of pride, a pride for values which will never be swept away by the times - love for the family, compassion for the weak, true friendship, and traditional morals. I believe it is such pride that enables these women to bravely take their steps under the burden of China's past destiny, which reflects humankind's loss in its continuous history of progress.” - FENG Yan

Castaways of Ata -a Tongan story of Survival
Doc Title in English 1
Genre 1true life survival story
Synopsis 1Castaways of ATA –A Tongan Story of Survival Stories of survival are always interesting. Here is a true life story, that happened more than 40 years ago. Six Tongan boys all about 15 years old were finding school life difficult. They were all students at St Andrews and good friends. Their plan was to “borrow “ a boat and sail away to a more adventurous life. They made their getaway but on the first night at sea a storm hit their 25 foot whaling boat, tore the sail and smashed the rudder. For the next 8 days they drifted – they had no maps and the food and water had all been swept overboard in the storm. They finally made landfall on a tiny uninhabited island 100 nautical miles from Tonga. That island was Ata, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean It would be 15 months [ 454 days ] before they would be found – all hope had been lost – funerals had been held for them, their families believed they had lost their sons. This is the story of their survival. In the next part of the story, an Australian fishing boat makes a surprise find when they drop anchor off Ata. The boys are rescued. Before reunion with their families, they re construct for a television news crew their life as castaways. Rescued at last they would be in trouble for stealing a boat – the owner had reported his boat stolen to the police – more seriously the sails they took belonged to the King. For their families – reunion with their lost boys was emotional and a huge feast was organized on their home island. Forty years later they tell the real story of why they ran away and how they survived so well. The story would be told and retold – become a part of Tongan folklore The experience was a positive one for all the boys – 40 years later they can look back on those events and reflect on how it influenced their lives. They now live in Salt Lake City, Oakland Ca., Auckland NZ and Australia. A happy ending. Postscript The boys have all remained friends, they meet up when they can in Tonga to relive those days when their hearts were full of adventure and travel. The documentary has been made by Steve Bowman an Australian film maker in 2007. He was the film editor of the original television news story. One of the ‘boys” was too ill to participate – he died last December. Further information contact sbowman@bigpond.net.au

Doc Title in English 1Happy Easter!
Genre 1Documentary
Synopsis 1A large group of more than fifty family and friends have camped in the same spot on Australia’s Murray River every Easter for the last 40 years. Within the very Australian Easter tradition of camping holidays, their own German and unique rituals have evolved. They effortlessly carry out a fixed routine of activities: nest-making for the Easter Bunny’s Eggs, an enormous Erbsensuppe, silly Sunday competitions, a decadent formal afternoon tea and a magical lantern walk. Started by fourteen young German migrants in 1969, three generations have keenly kept these habits up and amidst a social climate of dying traditions; the youngest seem likely to maintain them. Time is gently explored and danced with through a goldmine of material that conveys traditions and people growing and a landscape changing over 4 decades.

Genre 1None
Synopsis 1Everybody is against wars. However, there is always a war going on. There are people who live on the battlefield and others who live around the war as if it is only a part of their lives. They have become numb towards the violence and pass their days forgetting the war itself. A few young people, who experienced the war as a part of the Zaytun military, confess the changes of thoughts they have had since their experience in a war. Their interviews are presented in parallel with the lives of people who live the war as part of their daily lives in Iraq and Palestine to make us realize that our lives are not far from the threat of a war. We have considered the war as part of the news unrelated to us, every time the government dispatches troops. The film tells the reality of ours lives directly involved to the war in a calm and steady manner.

He determinedly digs a small amount every day and with perseverance eventually manages to move this mountain. Yugong Yishan is also the name of a small, non-descript bar, owned by a Chinese musician Gouzi, and is located in the middle of a parking lot surrounded by old apartment blocks in the heart of Beijing.
