BiographyAlicia Olson is Communications Manager at Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB) with responsibility for implementing and managing marketing strategies and communications, along with public relations activities and member relations programs.

Alicia comes to FPSB with a strong agency background in media relations, client counsel, event planning and viral marketing. Prior to joining FPSB, Alicia was director of client services and public relations at a Denver-based marketing and advertising agency, where she was responsible for managing client relationships, creating and implementing strategic public relations and social networking plans, and executing other communications-based initiatives.

Alicia graduated from Colorado State University cum laude with a degree in technical journalism and a concentration in public relations.

Angeline Chin

BiographyAngeline Chin is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong (IFPHK), the SAR’s leading non-profit institution for financial service professionals and the authorised sole-provider of the globally-recognised certification programs, including CFP certification and FAIQ. As CEO, Ms Chin assumes full management responsibility for IFPHK, which includes delivering the company’s mission of fostering professional standards in personal financial planning to benefit the public.

Together with institute’s president Francine Fu, and the other members of the Executive Committee, Ms Chin focus on continuing IFPHK’s leadership and dedication to improving the quality of financial service professionals in Hong Kong, across the institute’s departments. She also spearheaded the institute’s numerous efforts to improve public education on financial planning, and maintain IFPHK’s image as the voice of financial service professionals in Hong Kong.

Angelo van Nies

BiographyAngelo B.A.D. van Nies was born in 1956. Presently co-owner (50%) of Arces Financiële Planning BV, a Dutch based practice in financial planning and established in 1999. Before that time he was employed with the Dutch Army as a sport instructor (8 years), Police Squad (5 years police officer) and Nationale-Nederlanden Life Insurance NV (10 years) as an account manager Life Insurance, cooperating with brokers. Nationale-Nederlanden is a part of the ING Group. In the last 3 years of his employment with Nationale-Nederlanden he was asked to develop together with other employees a franchise-organisation of Financial Planning (Probe Financiële Planners).

Angelo graduated the Master programme in Financial Planning of the Hogeschool Brabant in association with the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 2002. As from that time he became active in the Dutch organisation of financial planning. In 2004 he joined some subcommittees of the VMFP, the member organisation of Masters in Financial Planning in the Netherlands. In 2006 he was chosen chairperson of the VMFP, for one year. In 2007 he was appointed chairperson of RMFP, the registration body for Masters in Financial Planning in the Netherlands. After RMFP became an FPSB Affiliate in April 2009 he is chairperson of FPSB Nederland (after the name change of RMFP to FPSB Nederland).

BiographyWong Boon Choy, CA(M), CPA, CFP, is the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MAAKL Mutual. He was appointed to the Board of Directors on 3 June 2004. He is also an investment committee member of the unit trust funds under the management of the Company.

Prior to joining MAAKL Mutual, he was the Senior General Manager of Public Mutual (formerly known as KL Mutual). He joined KL Mutual in 1988 and since then has accumulated more than 20 years of experience in the Malaysian unit trust industry. He first took charge of finance and accounting before moving on to oversee other areas of operations including information technology, marketing and sale of unit trusts. Before joining KL Mutual, he was with an international accounting firm for eight years.

Mr Wong was involved in establishing the Federation of Malaysian Unit Trust Managers. He was appointed the Founding Secretary in August 1993 and held that position for two years. He was exposed to foreign unit trust industries when he participated in the Federation’s study trips to Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and Australia. He is also one of the founding members of the Board of Governors (BOG) of the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia (FPAM). He is currently the President of FPAM.

A strong believer in financial planning, he co-authored a financial planning book entitled “Financial Freedom – Your Guide To Lifetime Financial Planning” and a second book entitled “Financial Freedom – Through Malaysian Equities and Unit Trusts”. In June 2008, Mr Wong co-authored a third book which revolves around the themes of health and wealth entitled “CHOICES – Live Well and Don’t Die Broke”.

Byung-Chul Yoon,

Yoon, Byung-chul is Chairman of Financial Planning Standard Board (FPSB) Korea and Korea Financial Planners Association (KFPA). Formerly, he served as Chairman & CEO of Hana Bank from 1985-1991 and Chairman & CEO of Woori Financial Group from 2001-2004.

Mr. Yoon was born in Kyungnam, Korea in 1937. He graduated from the Law School of Pusan National University in 1960. He also completed Top Management Course of Seoul National University (Business Administration Department) in 1984, and Top Management Course of Engineering thereof in 1993.

In1985, he was appointed as president & CEO of Korea Investment Finance Corporation(KIFC). In 1991, he successfully converted KIFC into Hana Bank, one of the leading commercial bank in Korea and served as President & CEO from 1991-1997. He was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hana Bank form 1997-2001. He was also elected and appointed Chairman & CEO of Woori Financial Group in 2001, the first Government sponsored financial holding company in Korea. In his tenure from 2001-2004, Woori Financial Group successfully turned its subsidiary banks around and was listed on the NYSE.

Mr. Yoon actively dedicated various social causes as well. He served as a member of Presidential Advisory Council for Economic Contingency in 1997. He also served as an independent director of Samsung Electronics, Co. Ltd., 1998-2000. As a huge supporter of Art and Culture, Mr. Yoon served as a director of Seoul Art Center from 1986-1991 and Chairman of the Korea Business Council for the Arts in 1998 as well.

He was awarded the prestigious presidential commendation in 1996, recognizing his contribution to the Korea Corporate Culture. He also received the Korea Management Award in 1997. Mr.Yoon is now a frequent lecturer and author of several books and articles on finance and banking .

Brendan J Glennon

BiographyBrendan J. Glennon QFA FIB

Brendan entered the Financial Services Industry, as a home service agent, on 31st December 1961. In 1967 he became a broker consultant and on 1st May 1978 established his own practice as an independent financial adviser.

The creation of meaningful competency standards amongst financial advisers has always been of special interest to Brendan. His active participation as a member of LIA, since 1980 has enabled him to play a role, in partnership with many other individuals and entities, in having the sales / advisory role gradually been accepted as a profession. On the 1st December 1995, at the suggestion of a group of industry activists in Ireland, Brendan discontinued his independent financial advisory role and took up the role as Chief Executive of LIA Ireland, which he held until May 10th 2008. Brendan also plays active roles in a number of associated financial services organisations in Ireland and is particularly proud to maintain his life membership of MDRT. Brendan is currently CEO of FPSB Ireland playing a very active role in promoting FPSB within Ireland.

Moran is Director of the CFP Board-registered program and Professor of Business Administration at the State University of New York-Cobleskill. He also teaches Corporate Governance and other subjects at the Harvard University Summer Program and NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
He began his service on CFP Board’s Board of Directors in 2008. Moran holds the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) credential and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional. He is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Michigan Law School and completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.

His professional career in financial services spans 40 years, including Pension Trust officer of Chase Manhattan Bank and Senior Vice President of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co. (both now part of JP Morgan Chase); Chairman, President and CEO of Lionel D. Edie and Co. (then the 15th largest money manager in the US) and founding President of Government Securities Clearing Corporation, a self regulatory organization(SRO) for clearance and settlement of global trading in US Government Securities. A frequent speaker on economics and financial topics, he has testified over 20 times before Senate and House Committees on benefits and investment issues on behalf of banks and other institutions. He also served on advisory councils to the US Department of Labor and the Federal Reserve Bank.

BiographyCorinna Dieters is the 2010 board chairperson for FPSB. As a consultant specializing in the areas of strategic decision-making, governance and business best practice, Dieters has more than 20 years of experience in the field of financial planning. She led the Financial Planning Association of Australia as chairperson from 2005 to 2007, and worked as a director of HLB Mann Judd Financial Services, a boutique financial planning firm in Australia. Dieters holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a post-graduate qualification in business management. Dieters’ term on the FPSB Board of Directors ends 31 March 2011.

BiographyDebbie Ammeter has been a member of the Board of Directors of Financial Planning Standards Council (“FPSC”) since June, 2004 and became Chair in June, 2009. She has been actively involved in national committees of FPSC and the Financial Advisors Association of Canada in the areas of ethics and practice standards, governance, best practices for financial planning and regulatory issues facing financial planners.

Debbie occupies a national role in the Canadian financial services industry as Vice-President, Advanced Financial Planning for Investors Group Financial Services Inc. In this role, she is responsible for the network of financial planning support provided to over 4500 Investors Group Consultants across Canada and the development of corporate strategy on financial planning. The support provided by the Advanced Financial Planning team includes providing advice to Investors Group Consultants on complex cases; identifying taxation, retirement, insurance, trust and estate planning solutions for clients; assisting with the development of financial plans; and developing and delivering financial planning training and resource materials to Investors Group Consultants, including the financial planning software used to prepare projections and illustrations and to deliver comprehensive and modular financial plans in all areas of financial planning.

Debbie has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, focused on financial planning, law, taxation and estate planning. She obtained her LL.B. from the University of Manitoba and has been licensed to practice law in Manitoba since 1981. She has been licensed as a CFP professional since 1999.

Deen Sanders

BiographyDeen Sanders is the Head of Professionalism and also Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Financial Planning Association in Australia (FPA).

The Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) is the peak professional body for Australia’s financial planners, representing approximately 12,000 individuals and businesses. Members of the FPA provide advice to more than 5 million Australians with investments valued at more than $630 billion, and through a trusted profession and consumer activity, strive to improve the financial wellbeing of all Australians.

Working with regulators, industry and consumers, Deen is charged with the role of building the professional identity of Financial Planners and a strong and respected system of professional regulation that supports good practice in Financial Planning. This extends to being responsible for professional education, professional conduct and also the professional accountability actions of the FPA.

Deen’s previous roles have included heading FSEAA, Australia’s marketplace regulatory agency for Financial Services education, with a domestic and international regulatory focus on promoting our educational structures for Financial Services, as well as past professional roles extending from practice in psychology, roles in corporate finance, international finance, insurance arenas and executive roles in retail banking.

His academic background includes undergraduate and postgraduate business, psychology and law as well as professional education and people development.

He is currently undertaking a Doctorate in the area of Professionalism, Ethics and Financial Planning.

Feng Liu

BiographyDr. Liu has been elected as the Chairman of FPSB China Ltd. since February 2009. He is also a member and the secretary general of FPSB China advisory Panel. He has been the chief editor and author of CFP Text book “Investment Planning” published in China since 2004. He has served as an independent Board Director in Oriental Fund Management Co. since 2004 and in Qilu Bank since 2007. Dr. Liu is an Adjunct Professor at the Desautel Faculty of Management of McGill University and at the Faculty of Economics of Nankai University.

Dr. Liu had served as Deputy Secretary General of the Financial Planning Standards Council of China (FPSCC) for four years (05-08). He served as a member of FPSB nominating committee for two years (07-08). He was a professor of Finance and director of China programs at McGill University from 1996 to 2005. He also had teaching experiences at Nangyang Technological University (97-98), University of Windsor (95-96) and Concordia University (93-95), and Tianjin University (87-89). He held a Royal Bank visiting professorship at the Graduate School of People’s Bank of China (1998-2008) and a visiting professorship at Central University of Finance and Economics, Renmin University and Dalian University of Technology. He has also served as a Vice President in Canadian Chinese Finance Association (2002-2005), Senior advisor for China Asset Management Co. (2001) and Fullgoal Fund Management Co. (2000), and a member of American Finance Association (1995-2005).

BiographyFrancis Sung Lark Rim graduated from Seoul National University’s College of Commerce and received his MBA degree at the University of Minnesota. He began his business career as a banker in 1972 serving in various executive positions.

Back in 1978, Francis was appointed as manager of the planning division of Korea Development Finance Corporation, which was established under the co-sponsorship of the International Finance Corporation and Federation of Korean Industries. He directed the funding program from IBRD, ADB and other commercial sources. He also directed the project to transform the Korea Development Finance Corporation into Korea Long Term Credit Bank. In 1980, Francis was appointed manager of the Project Division and led a feasibility study on the proposed projects for sub-tending. In 1996, he was elected Director of Korean Long Term Credit Bank and in 1988 promoted to Managing Director of the Bank. He was in charge of fund management, investment trust business and the personal financial program. In December 1998, he became President and CEO of Kukmin Investment Trust Management, Inc.

Francis has served as an outside director for several large manufacturing companies including Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Hansol Paper Co. Ltd.

Francis joined in FPSB Korea and is involved in CFP certification in Korea.

Gautam Chikermane

BiographyCurrently Executive Editor (Business) of Hindustan Times, Gautam Chikermane is a business journalist. His area of expertise is financial, regulatory and macroeconomic policy. Apart from driving business and economy news, he writes Intersections (a weekly column on how the economy connects with people and politics) and Cutting the Edge (a blog on how latest research across subjects impacts citizens’ lives).

He is currently serving his second term as Director and Vice Chairman on the FPSB India Board, and Chairman of its Education Committee. Formerly, he was Editor (Special Project) at The Indian Express, Executive Editor at The Financial Express and Executive Editor of Outlook Money. He is the author of Five Decades of Decay (Rupa, 1997). BiographyIan Johnston is the deputy chief executive and managing director for Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA). At the DFSA, Johnston is responsible for regulatory policy, enforcement of financial services laws and provision of legal services. Over the past 10 years, he has held executive committee or commissioner level positions with three internationally respected regulatory authorities: Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and DFSA. Julie has been a financial adviser for over 20 years. She is currently the Managing Director of Berry Financial Services Pty Ltd in Port Macquarie, on the New South Wales Mid North Coast and an Authorised Representative of Comcorp Financial Advice

Julie’s commitment to the FPA is a long-standing one. She was Chair of the Mid North Coast Chapter for eight years, and the recipient of a Distinguished Service Award in 2000. Julie has been an FPA Board member since 2003, having served as Deputy Chair in 2007.

Karen Schaeffer

Tripod promotes and finances the growth of sustainable business in Brazil. Since 2002, Maia has also served as vice president at the Brazilian Association of Investment Banks (ANBID) overseeing certification and coordinating commissions of private equity, real estate and securitization funds. Lyn’s qualifications include a Graduate Certificate in Management from Charles Sturt University, NSW, Australia and the Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (Endorsed in Personal Financial Planning) from Massey University. She also holds the Certified Financial Planner professional designation.

Lyn also holds the position of President of the Institute of Financial Advisers of New Zealand.

BiographySteve Helmich is the financial planning, advice and services director for AMP Financial Services in Australia. With 36 years experience in the financial services industry, Helmich has spent the last 14 with AMP Limited as a managing director. He is responsible for AMP’s person-to-person financial planning licensees, including nearly 700 CFP professionals. Helmich also chaired the Financial Planning Association (FPA) Board from 2002 to 2004, and was awarded life membership in the FPA in 2007. Prior to 1996, Helmich worked as state manager for Western Australia, leading the planning operations for the state. His term on the FPSB Board of Directors ends 31 March 2014.
Tamara Monroe

BiographyTamara Monroe joined FPSB in May 2007 as Director of Legal Services, overseeing the trademark and corporate legal work and managing the licensing and affiliation agreements with FPSB Associates and FPSB Affiliates. Tamara oversees FPSB’s Affiliate Assessment Program to ensure compliance with the international CFP certification program standards, and has completed the ISO 17024 Management System Lead Auditor Course. She supports FPSB’s ongoing development of globally consistent ethics and practice standards and assists FPSB Affiliates in developing ethics standards and implementing disciplinary processes.

Prior to joining FPSB, Tamara was Director of Core Operations and Professional Review at Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc., which owns the CFP certification marks in the U.S. In addition to ensuring CFP Board’s disciplinary process functioned properly, she oversaw the Education and Examination, Stakeholder and Certification Services, and Information Technology departments.

Tamara previously worked as an attorney in the telecommunications industry for several years, with an emphasis on compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements. She was also in private civil litigation practice for two years and was a paralegal for several years before attending law school.

Tamara received her B.A., cum laude, from the University of Akron, Ohio in 1984 and a Juris Doctor degree from Seattle University School of Law, Seattle, Washington in 1995.

Toshiharu Shirane

BiographyMr. Shirane obtained his CFP designation in 1993. He lectures at Waseda, Kokushikan and Sapporo Universities and many other institutions covering estate, tax, insurance planning, and asset management. His authorship includes “Ultimate Way of Tax Saving: How to Establish a Corporation”, “Life Planning During the Deflation Era”, “Business Owner’s Pension: Three Steps of Maximization”, “Tax Strategy: Establishing a Subsidiary Company and It’s Utilization”, ”Estate Planning”, “Defensive Financial Planning for Quality of Life”, and various financial planning textbooks.

Mr. Shirane is a graduate of Waseda University with a Bachelor of Law degree.

Wessel Oosthuizen

BiographyWessel Oosthuizen is a Certified Financial Planner® and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of South Africa. He is currently appointed as the Director for the Centre for Financial Planning Law, University of the Free State (CFPL). CFPL is a centre entrusted with delivering 11 semester modules in financial planning, two postgraduate diplomas nationally via distance learning and 8 LL M modules.
CFPL gives face to face training to more than 700 students per year. Financial planning modules are delivered to more than 110 under graduate students and to over 1 500 postgraduate students via distance learning.

Since 2006 Wessel served as a member of the FPSB Certification Committee. He also served in 2007 on an International Education Advisory Panel advising on
the way forward for education in financial planning. This panel was co-chaired by Wessel. He was also part of an Education Working Group (2008) which developed a financial planning curriculum framework.

Wessel is currently heading up two working groups and two education panels on behalf of FPSB. The working groups and panels will assist the Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. with the development of frameworks, processes, templates and guidance documents for the implementation of global financial planning standards.

His qualifications include three degrees (Baccalaureus Procurationis, Baccalaureus Legum and Magister Legum (specializing in estate law). Further to this he did a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning and a National
Certificate in Capital Markets.
Wim Biemans

BiographyWim A. Biemans was born in 1952. Presently co-owner (50%) of PlanningMasters BV, a Dutch based practice in financial planning and established in 2003. Before that time he was employed with Rabobank (23 years), Bank of America NT & SA Rotterdam Branch (5 years) and Algemene Bank Nederland NV (4 years). In the last 8 years of his employment with Rabobank he was a member of the managementteam of Rabobank Ter Aar, responsible for Private Banking, Mortgages and Investment, managing a staff of over 35 people.

Wim graduated the Masterprogramme in Financial Planning of the Aggregate Business School of the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 2002. As from that time he became active in the alumni organisation of the masterprogramme. In 2005 he joined the board of the VMFP, the member organisation of Masters in Financial Planning in the Netherlands. In 2006 he became a board member of the RMFP, the registration body for Masters in Financial Planning in the Netherlands. His main area of attention is the organising of continued education for both members of VMFP and RMFP.

Wim is married and has two grown children.

Wiwan graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in English with Honors from Chulalongkorn University. She then won a scholarship from Kasikorn Bank Public Co., Ltd. to pursue her MBA in Finance and Marketing at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, U.S.A. She worked for the bank in the areas of lending and investment banking for 7 years before joining One Asset Management Limited for 14 years as the Executive Vice President, Director and Senior Executive Vice President, then President. She later joined Kasikorn Asset Management Co., Ltd. as the Managing Director and was later promoted to Executive Vice Chairman. She rejoined Kasikorn Bank briefly as the Executive Vice President and the Head of corporate business.

Her previous positions include Governor of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, Director of Thailand Securities Depository Co., Ltd., Executive Director of National Electronics and Computer Technology (NECTEC), Advisor of Market for Alternative Investment (MAI), Audit sub-committee of the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
She is currently the Chairman of Kasikorn Research Center Co., Ltd., the research arm of Kasikornbank Group, Chairman of the Executive Board of Thai Financial Planners Association (TFPA). She has a column on personal finance and investment topics in a Thai business newspaper “Krungthep Turakit” and also gives special lectures to universities and public seminars.

Wiwan has received many scholarships and awards including the Schaffner Award from Kellogg in 2001, Kasikornbank Scholarship in 1983, JAL Scholarship for University Students in 1981, Best-All-Around Student of the Year 1979 from the Prince Royal’s College, AFS International Scholarship in 1978.
