On October 1, 2014, the title insurance industry in New York State enters a new era of professional regulation. The inauguration of this change to the Insurance Law will bring changes both large and small. On the Federal level, the CFPB is extending its reach into real estate finance and in less than one year, the TILA-RESPA disclosure integration goes into effect.
The focus of the 2014 NYSLTA Annual Meeting is a broad and diverse examination of how title agents, underwriter corporations and affiliated title professionals in New York will be impacted by these changes.
On Monday, September 15, attendees will hear from Daniel Burstein, Deputy Superintendent for Real Estate Finance at the New York State Department of Financial Services. On Tuesday, September 16, we will offer a presentation on integrated disclosure from Shiri Wolf, Counsel, CFPB Office of Regulations.
With the initial round of regulations ready to roll out, we will offer an informational panel presentation on the title insurance agent license law – note this session will also qualify for CLE credit. The adjustments to operating a business in a regulated environment extend beyond legal compliance, so attendees will enjoy the benefit of experience shared by our guests from other states: Leslie Midgley, CEO of the Texas Land Title Association; Phil Janny, title agent, the first recipient of the ALTA National Title Professional designation and former President of the Pennsylvania Land Title Association; and Madeline Nagy, Director of State-Government Affairs for the American Land Title Association.
The Annual Meeting is also the time to conduct vital business of the Association. Agent Section and Title Insurance Section meetings will be held to nominate Officers for the coming Membership year and discuss other key issues. In the General Sessions we will address the election of new Officers, vote to amend the By-laws and hear a report from Steven Day, of the ALTA Board of Governors.
Members who plan to attend only the Monday or Tuesday sessions should purchase the Single Day Package, which includes breakfast and lunch. A Double Day Package is also available.
SINGLE DAY AND DOUBLE DAY PACKAGES DO NOT INCLUDE DINNER.
A separate ticket is offered to Tuesday night’s Cocktail Reception and Gala Dinner Dance.
