Conference Description

The 17th Annual International Family Justice Center Conference will host a unique and powerful convening of professionals working in the fields of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, elder abuse, and human trafficking in Milwaukee, April 4-6, 2017!

The Alliance is hosting this historic dual-conference at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center in downtown Milwaukee, a vibrant urban city with exciting nightlife and great restaurants. Dynamic plenary session speakers, nine workshops to choose from in every time slot, tours of the largest Family Justice Center in America, and a special evening at the historic Harley Davidson Museum will make this a conference to remember! The Wisconsin Together for Children Conference and the International Family Justice Center Conference will jointly address what trauma-informed practices look like in child abuse, sexual assault, elder abuse, human trafficking, and domestic violence for:
  • Prosecutors
  • Law enforcement officers
  • Advocates
  • Therapists
  • Civil Attorneys
  • Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Judges
  • Court Professionals
  • Survivors
  • Parole and Probation Officers
The International Family Justice Center Conference is the only national and international violence prevention conference focused on the development of multi-agency, multi-disciplinary teams in every community in America and around the world! In 2017, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) will host two tracks (with six workshops per track) of the conference – one on the “Handling Non-Fatal Strangulation Cases” and the other on “Family Justice Centers and Multi-Agency Models.”  The U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) will sponsor sessions on polyvictimization and the complex challenges of working with polyvictims – survivors impacted by multiple forms of childhood and adult trauma. In all workshops, we will share our lessons learned on how your community can move forward toward greater collaboration, co-located services approaches, and effective high risk teams - that can save lives and produce better short and long-term outcomes for survivors and their children.  Other conference workshop tracks will include: “Working at the Intersections of Child Abuse/Domestic Violence”; “Best Practices for Law Enforcement and Advocacy”; “Trauma Informed Systems of Care and Practice”; and “Legal Strategies for Civil and Criminal Justice Professionals.”

Join a national faculty of prosecutors, law enforcement professionals, civil attorneys, doctors, nurses, advocates, mental health professionals, and researchers in an amazing three days of interaction, small group discussions, strategic thinking, and cutting edge learning!  Our speakers and sessions will challenge you and your multi-disciplinary team to dream big and change the world!
