USA ​Swimming ​will ​host ​its young ​women’s ​leadership ​summit, ​She ​LEADS, ​at ​the ​La Foret Conference & Retreat Center in Black Forrest, CO. ​This ​summit ​is ​targeted ​at ​female ​swimmers currently enrolled in ​10th, ​11th ​or ​12th ​grade. ​This ​summit ​is ​designed ​to ​inspire ​leadership ​in ​our ​female ​athletes ​and ​build ​their ​confidence ​to ​achieve ​success ​both ​in ​and ​out ​of ​the ​pool. ​


Roberta Kraus

Roberta is a Sports Psychologist whose international reputation comes from extensive experience with designing and implementing specific mental training programs on the subject of peak performance, team leadership, group dynamics, communications and motivation. Her involvement with professional leaders in the corporate, nonprofit and educational sector along with professional and Olympic athletes has helped individuals, teams and organizations develop more effective practices for consistent top performance.

Two of her major passions are in the areas of Resiliency for Women Leaders and Leadership Development for Consistent Top Performance for individuals and teams. She has spent the past several years developing and implementing customized women’s leadership workshops and consistent top performance training tools for individual performers and teams in the business, educational and athletic world.

Roberta holds two master’s degrees, one in Higher Education from the University of Northern Colorado and one in Sports Psychology from University of Arizona. Her Ph.D. from the University of Denver is in Communications, specializing in its application to individual and team effectiveness. She played competitive tennis and basketball at Montclair State College earning her a spot as an alternate to the Women’s Olympic Basketball team. In addition, her college tennis record is still undefeated.

Cathy Wright-Eger 

Entering her 27th year in the Purdue Athletic Department, Cathy Wright-Eger has established a reputation of producing outstanding student-athletes. From 1987 to 2008, Cathy was the Boilermaker Head Swim Coach where her teams represented Purdue at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship 20 of her 21 years.

Wright-Eger was named Big Ten Coach of the year in 1990, Boilermaker Coach of the Year by the Purdue Club of Chicago in 1993, YWCA Salute to Women Award in 1996, and featured in Sports Illustrated for Women in 2001 focusing on being a mother and a coach at the same time.

In 2003 and 2005, Cathy was accorded the honor of being named to the United States Swim Team staff for the World University Games in South Korea and Turkey respectively.  In 2006, she had the opportunity to take a small group of US swimmers to the FINA World Youth Championships setting herself to be chosen to the US Swim Staff for the 2007 Pan-American games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

After ending her coaching career in 2008, Wright-Eger established the John R. Wooden Leadership Institute for the coaches and student-athletes.  She oversees the development of leadership skills in the emerging leaders and the captains of all 18 of the athletics teams.  She continues to work with the Athletic Department and is currently the Leadership Advisor and Professional Behaviorist for the John R. Wooden Institute.

Summit Venue:

This summit will be hosted at the historic La Foret Conference & Retreat Center in beautiful Black Forest, CO.

You will stay together in large cabins with wood-burning fireplaces and hardwood floors. This rustic retreat center allows you to take advantage of the unique setting with outdoor activities and walks. For more information on La Foret Conference and Retreat Center click here.

Your registration fee will cover accommodations for an arrival on Friday and departure on Sunday. If you choose to arrive on Thursday, transportation, lodging & meals will be on your own until Friday dinner. If you choose to depart after Sunday, transportation, lodging & meals will be on your own at the conclusion of the Summit.

If you are flying to the clinic: We will only be providing transportation to/from the COLORADO SPRINGS Airport on Friday, April 20th and Sunday, April 22nd. Please arrive between 9am-11am on Friday and depart any time after 1pm on Sunday.

Are you flying into Denver?
If you choose to fly into Denver, you must arrange your own transportation to La Foret. USA Swimming is not responsible for ground transportation or chaperoning this travel to/from Denver International Airport.

If you are driving to the clinic: Please arrange to be dropped off by 1pm on Friday, April 20th and picked up between 11am-noon on Sunday, April 22nd.

Event supervision:
USA Swimming will chaperone all attendees for this event while they are participating in the summit. Athletes will be greeted at baggage claim at the Colorado Springs Airport and shuttled the venue. On the return, athletes will be walked to security, but once thru, they are on their own. Parents or coaches are welcome to travel with the athletes, but will not be permitted to stay on-site at the venue once the athlete has checked in for the event.
