What if church fundraising started with serving a community's financial needs and goals instead of feelings of guilt and scarcity?

Consumer culture, a lack of financial skills, and market injustices lead thousands to the brink of bankruptcy every year. Seventy percent of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck. Many feel unable to pay their bills, much less increase their tithes and gifts to the church.

Giving Freedom turns traditional fundraising models right-side-up. Rather than just seeking donations or launching capital campaigns, Giving Freedom means that church fundraising starts by leading people toward financial freedom in their own lives. Giving Freedom means that church fundraising begins by building trust through best practices in church financial management and leadership. Giving Freedom means joy-filled, empowering, and mission-driven fundraising.

This right-side-up approach to fundraising is rooted in acts of service and habits of sufficiency rather than feelings of guilt, envy, and scarcity. Right-side-up fundraising helps congregations tithe from the top instead of the bottom. And right-side up fundraising helps Christians to be faithful stewards of God's resources.

This conference is sponsored by the Faith and Finance Program at Emory University's Candler School of Theology and made possible by generous support from the Lilly Endowment, Inc.
