Hands On Classes

Pregnancy Massage all 4 Trimesters

Saturday, September 14, from 8:30 AM - 6:30 PM

This hands on class is designed to help you learn how to safely adapt and provide massage throughout all 4 trimesters of a mother’s perinatal journey. From conception thru the 4th trimester you will gain a deeper understanding on the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of pregnancy and beyond! 

You will learn how pregnancy can look and be very different for each woman, whether it is an woman who is pregnant with her 5th child, has achieved pregnancy through IVF, is living with a miscarriage or loss, you will learn best practices to support them and to provide massage. 

You will learn about common complaints and conditions that can occur in pregnancy and how to best provide massage to support them. You will have a understanding of current safety guidelines, contraindications, and scope of practice when providing pregnancy massage. You will learn postural changes, muscles and ligament involvement and how to safely treat and release restrictions.

Attendees need to bring:
Massage table, lubricant, 2 sets of sheets, 2 or 3 pillows with pillowcases on them, or a body pillow and a pillow with cases on them, and a blanket.

Participants should wear:
Wear a loose fitting top and comfortable clothes that you are used to massaging in, some of the work maybe on the floor so be prepared to adapt!


Massage to Support Labor, Delivery & Postpartum

Sunday, September 15, from 8:30 AM -6:00 PM.

During this fun, hands on class, you will learn how to provide massage during a special time in a woman’s life! We will explore the physiology of the birth process and look at muscle involvement and strain. We will learn how to safely adapt massage during labor and delivery and for the weeks following delivery as the woman’s body is healing. 

We will look at best practices and contraindications to massage during each of these times. We will cover how to be apart of and work within a birth team if necessary. We will learn how to provide massage in various positions and how to teach a partner to provide appropriate massage during labor and delivery.

Attendees need to bring:
Massage table, lubricant, 2 sets of sheets, 2 or 3 pillows with pillowcases on them, or a body pillow and a pillow with cases on them, and a blanket.

About Kim Corpus LMT, CCE, CPMS, Doula
Kim is passionate about massage, massage education, and research. She enjoys educating massage therapists helping them gain knowledge, techniques, and an understanding on safe and adapted practices that are needed to work with pregnancy, infants, pediatrics, and their families. Kim is a certified childbirth educator (CCE) through the Academy of Childbirth Educators and a trained doula with DONA with almost 20 years of experience.

She currently has as a private practice in Buffalo & Rochester, NY. She works with Crousehospital in Syracuse, NY collaborating and helping to create an integrative model of massage therapy and education in special populations like perinatal health, infants, pediatrics, and mental health. She has worked providing massage within many of the programs that have been developed at Crouse, like the perinatal mood disorder program. Her vision and passion for families going through loss, has led her to work in the field of perinatal loss. She has supported families in the special care nursery and in the NICU both as a doula and a massage therapist.

She has taught pregnancy and infant massage at Crouse Hospital, for AMTA NY, and New York Massage Alliance. In 2018, she helped to create a course for infant and pediatric massage with Northwestern University of Health and Science in Minneapolis, MN. She was a contributor to the article Massage and Pregnancy: A Powerful Combination in the Massage Therapy Journal. She is a contributing author of the Massage Therapy: Principles and Practices (6th ed).

She loves providing massage to woman while pregnant, then being able to use massage to support infants as they grow into children and adolescence. Her knowledge & expertise in pregnancy, infant, and pediatric massage is regularly sought after by professionals and organizations.
