Laasya provides college students with a platform to exhibit their hard work and talent among an assortment of people. Founded by Boston University’s Dheem and MIT’s Natya in 2010, Laasya has networked dancers and artists together in the United States. Not only is Laasya the first large-scale dance competition hosted by students at the University of Pittsburgh, but it is also the only nationally-recognized competition that features various classical Indian dance styles and art forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathak, Kathakali, Mohiniattam, and Manipuri.

Eight collegiate teams from across the nation will be exclusively chosen to compete in front of thousands of people, all of which include locals and newcomers alike. Our very own University of Pittsburgh classical dance team, Nrityamala, will showcase their talent alongside other Pittsburgh-based groups. As tradition, first place winners host the successive competition in their team’s city or campus, allowing Laasya to expand within the northeast from Boston to Washington D.C, and more recently, Pittsburgh. As first place winners of Laasya 2011, Pitt Nrityamala is proud to host Laasya in Pittsburgh, PA at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall on February 11th, 2012.

As a non-profit organization, Laasya will donate the proceeds of ticket sales to Unite for Sight, a charitable organization that provides eye care to patients in India and Ghana.
