National Conference on Using Data to Promote Health Equity and Address Disparities   We are pleased to announce a national conference, Knowledge for Equity: Using Data to Address Health Disparities,which will be held on November 13th and 14th, 2012, in Silver Spring, Maryland. The conference will help community-based organizations to better use data and other sources of knowledge to promote health equity and address health disparities. The conference will be designed to support community based efforts to access, analyze, and use existing national, state, or local data. The conference will include workshops, breakout sessions, and presentations.

Workshop and Session Topics.

  • Measuring and reporting disparities in social determinants of health;
  • Using data for strategy development and improvement;
  • Forming data collaboratives and partnerships;
  • Using data for public education;
  • Federal resources for data;
  • Town hall meeting: How the federal government can do more to improve access and use of data by community based efforts;
  • How to find out what works; and
  • Opportunities to learn from community groups from around the country.

Audience.  The Conference is primarily for members of community-based efforts (coalitions, grassroots organizations, etc.) and nonprofit organizations that use data to advance their health equity or health disparities work. The conference is open to anyone who is using data to address health disparities and is willing to learn and share their experience with others.

Conference Registration. The cost of the conference is $110 and includes attendance, workshop materials, snacks, reception and one lunch.  Reimbursements for travel and conference costs are available for community-based efforts working to address health disparities. 

Conference Partners.  Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA), Community-Campus Partnerships for Health, the Community Indicators Consortium, the Prevention Institute, PolicyLink, and the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership

Community Indicators Consortium Conference. This conference will be held in conjunction with the annual conference of the Community Indicators Consortium (CIC) in College Park, Maryland, on November 15-16, see: Community Indicators Conference. Shuttle service will be provided to the CIC Conference site and transportation arrangements will be adjusted to accommodate attendance for those receiving the travel reimbursement (hotel and other travel costs will not be included for attendance to the CIC).
