$2,150 - Early registration rate for payment of entire course fee (available until April 15, 2013)
$2,350 - Standard course fee (due by May 26, 2012).
$2,450 - Eight month payment plan  (course must be paid in full to receive completion certificate)

The Summer RYT Immersion provides a solid foundation in the art and science of teaching basic adult yoga classes. It is a requirement of either of two available Adult Yoga Instructor Certification tracks that lead to a 200-hour teacher certification and registration with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200).

Youth & Adult Instructor Certification (RYT-200) Track

This track is for those planning on teaching youth, families and some adult classes. Building upon the knowledge and skills learned in our Youth Instructor Certification curriculum for teaching youth (Wellness 1-4 workshops), the Summer RYT Immersion will provide you with additional skills and certification to teach safe, simple, therapeutic and emotionally supportive adult yoga classes.

The 200-hour coursework is as follows:

Adult & Yoga for Seniors Instructor Certification (RYT-200) track

This track is for those planning on teaching adult classes only, with additional training in the needs of Seniors and Special Populations. This pioneering program combines the best of modern, evidenced based medicine with the ancient wisdom, experience and tradition of Yogic teachings, leading to a 200-hour teacher certification, in addition to a Yoga for Seniors and Yoga for Special Populations Certificate.

Developed from nearly four decades of personal yoga and meditation practices and the teaching thousands of yoga classes, the Yoga Calm curriculum for teaching adults is extremely practical, preparing you to teach adults in various settings, and with diverse needs and conditions.This unique training is designed to help you
  • Study, refine and deepen your own practice.
  • Develop a well-rounded knowledge of yoga philosophy, practices, history and lifestyle. 
  • Understand the alignment principles, energetic actions, variations, modifications, contraindications, risks and benefits of more than 60 asana and restorative poses.
  • Learn motivational strategies, tools and skills 
  • Learn how to develop class plans based on student needs and clear sequencing principles.
  • Learn the art of giving hands–on adjustments and leading partner activities.
  • Learn how to work with unique student needs such as injuries, chronic diseases, advancing age and pregnancy.
  • Teach in various settings and learn the basics of marketing and running your own yoga business.
In addition, you will also experience and learn
  • Various forms of meditation and mindfulness practices including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) 
  • Yoga therapeutics and how integrated alignment principles support our physical, mental and emotional health.
  • 10-12 theme-based lesson plans that creatively integrate restorative and therapeutic yoga poses, core stability training, mindfulness processes, yoga philosophy, functional fitness activities and social support..
  • Progressive lesson plans with scaffolding sequences and modifications to meet the needs of mixed classes. 
  • Mindful movement activities, walking meditations and yogadance classes taught by Lynea Gillen and accompanied by live music.
  • Kirtan, traditional call and response singing, led by Shantala, Heather and Benjy Wertheimer.

Other Information

Registration for this training is limited to 12. Having a regular yoga practice for at least one year is also recommended. Contact us about any questions you have about your qualifications.

Receipt of your final Yoga Calm RYT certificate and qualification to apply to Yoga Alliance for your RYT-200 registration will be contingent upon completing
  • Summer RYT Immersion (16 days; 128 contact hours)
  • Either Youth Instructor Certification or Yoga for Seniors/Special Populations Certifications (52 contact hours)
  • Electives/Practicum: 20 hours

The Yoga Calm RYT program doesn’t authorize you to train other adults to teach the Yoga Calm curriculum. 

3 PSU graduate credits and clock hours are available.
