Deepen your knowledge and develop your ability to teach self-regulation, attention, integrative movement and social/emotional skills development activities to youth (Pre-K to grade 12). The Yoga Calm Practicum includes practice teaching, lesson planning, mindfulness inquiries and observation and guidance on how to successfully teach Yoga Calm.

The Practicum course is designed to give students a supervised practical application of Yoga Calm activities and methods. It’s a powerful way to learn, as you will get real-world experience applying Yoga Calm, combined with personal coaching.

The course’s portfolio and coursework also counts toward Yoga Calm Youth and Adult (RYT-200) Instructor Programs.

You can register for the Practicum anytime after completion of the Integrated Approach to Wellness 1 course.

The Practicum’s main requirement is the creation of a portfolio, which includes the following work products:
  • Teaching log documenting 20 hours of teaching Yoga Calm to youth (Preschool – 12th grade)
  • Open-book exam (Yoga Calm for Children)
  • Five lesson plans, each based on a Yoga Calm Principle (Stillness, Listening, Grounding, Strength, Community)
  • 30-minute video of you teaching Yoga Calm to youth
If taking the Practicum as part of the Yoga Calm Youth Instructor Certification Program, its portfolio must be completed and submitted 4 weeks prior to your Certification Capstone (formerly Wellness 4) course in order to certify by that course date. (Please contact us if you have any questions about this requirement.)

The Practicum Process

After registration, Leah, our Practicum Coach, will welcome you to the program and send you instructions for downloading assignments from our learning management system. Leah is a Certified Yoga Calm Youth Instructor, who interned and taught courses with Lynea Gillen, and has many years of experience teaching Yoga Calm activities. She will guide you through the portfolio process as well as provide personal coaching and assistance in your learning process.

Completion of the student portfolio will be self-paced, with each work product submitted as it is completed. Leah will provide feedback on portfolio work products as they are submitted, requesting modifications as needed, and providing tips to help improve your teaching.

Once all portfolio work products are deemed complete, you will receive a detailed written review/grade and feedback on each work product in your portfolio. Additional feedback and instruction will be provided, in person, if you take the Certification Capstone (formerly Wellness 4) course.

Register Early

Logging your teaching hours and completing the other portfolio requirements typically takes most students 3-6 months to complete. By registering immediately after taking the Wellness 1 course you can also receive early feedback and guidance in your early stages of learning and applying the Yoga Calm Wellness Curriculum.

Each student situation is different, so feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
