Course Description and Statement of Need
This CME activity will bring together physicians from a wide variety of disciplines including Endocrinology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Internal Medicine to provide participants with a state-of-the-art conference on endocrinology and metabolism. This course is designed to summarize and present the latest information in the diagnosis and management of endocrine/metabolic disorders, including pituitary disorders, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis and androgen related disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).  In addition to state-of-the-art management of various endocrine and metabolic disorders, attendees will gain insight into areas of clinical research and controversial issues in disease management. Formal presentations will be accompanied by question and answer periods with general discussion.

Target Audience
This educational activity is intended for practicing physicians in the field of endocrinology, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine and healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with endocrine disorders.

Educational Objectives

  • Describe the limits and capabilities of newer, minimally invasive approaches to tumors of the suprasellar region to enable selection of the best procedure most likely to yield total resection with least morbidity.
  • Appraise the risks and benefits of bariatric surgery as compared to the risks of continued obesity and type 2 diabetes.
  • Apply new guidelines for post-operative TSH suppression, taking into account disease staging.
  • Evaluate patients for impaired glucose tolerance, to reduce morbidity associated with PCOS.
  • Appraise the current literature on dopamine agonist withdrawal, focusing on clinical factors which influence treatment outcomes.

Credit Designation
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Continuing Nurses Education
The California State Board of Registered Nursing accepts courses approved by the ACCME for category 1 credit as meeting the continuing education requirements for license renewal.
