Course Description and Statement of Need
This 2nd annual educational activity will provide guidance to front-line clinicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pharmacists with the most current information available about new agents in oncology and the translation of the latest research to their patients. New Therapeutics in Oncology: The Road to Personalized Medicine will cover drug and treatment updates with a focus on new agents in GI malignancies, lung cancer, and lymphoma. In addition, renowned faculty will present lectures on new radiotherapy approaches, new drug and surgical treatments of breast cancer, targeting the c-MET pathway, and a discussion of new Phase I studies. On the second day of the conference, a keynote address on personalized treatment of cancer and the context of vulnerability will be featured.

Target Audience
This educational activity is intended for primary care and oncology clinicians, oncology nurses, physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and for other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with cancers.

Educational Objectives     

  • Describe the new clinical study results that led to the approval of new therapies for cancer treatment.
  • Identify the new potential biomarkers used for screening patients for targeted therapy.
  • Apply new surgical techniques in the treatment of cancer in order to improve patient quality of life.
  • Describe the risks and benefits of new surgical techniques.
  • Describe the molecular biology of cancer and how it relates to treatment.
  • Apply the latest on targeted approaches in the care of patients with advanced cancer such as GI, lung, and lymphoma.
  • Apply the principles of drug discovery for the next generation of targeted therapies.
  • Utilize the latest treatment strategies for managing patients with advanced cancer in order to improve patient outcomes.
  • Apply new surgical techniques in the treatment of cancer in order to improve patient quality of life.
  • Identify new radiation treatment modalities for cancer patients.
  • Describe RFA technique used for the treatment cancer.
