Map and Directions

We are very pleased to announce the 2014, 11th Annual Institute for Emotional Intelligence to be held on the beautiful campus of McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas!  McLennan  is modeling the way of
Creating Cultures for Organizational and Student Success by integrating the skills and skill sets of transformative emotional intelligence (EI) in its institutional quality enhancement plan–the Learning Environment Adaptability Project–LEAP.  We hope you join us for the conference and pre-conference professional development opportunities during the week of February 17-21, 2014.  We invite you to celebrate, learn, and share about creating cultures for organizational and student success with research and practical applications of transformative emotional intelligence!

Conference-At-A-Glance

A central feature of our annual conference is to provide a collegial forum to share and disseminate emerging, evidence-based research and programs related to transformative emotional intelligence.  A goal of our annual conference is to present innovative practices in EI research and professional practice, educational and curriculum developments for teaching and learning EI skill sets and skills, model program applications in business, organizational, and government settings.  EI Professional Coaching is a new featured area this year and highlights the University of Houston-Victoria graduate certificate program in Adult and Higher Education. Special programs are encouraged and accepted in the following areas:

Research

This program area includes doctoral level and institutional research to enhance the scholarship and professional practice with transformative emotional intelligence.  The EI Research area provides a framework for applied research to improve teaching and learning, college and student success, strategic planning and interdisciplinary performance connections for people and organizations.  The focus of applied and outcome research includes using research derived positive assessments to provide person-centered, relationship-focused learning models for program review, analysis, and continuous program improvement.  A special feature will be an inside look at the innovative Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) of McLennan Community College to integrate EI into the college's institutional culture to improve student effort (engagement) and course completion (retention).

Education and Curriculum Development

Emotional Intelligence as a learned ability is the defining feature of our person-centered, relationship-focused learning models from the very beginning of our research emphasis on personal and emotional skills (1977-present).  The education and transformative learning models of emotional intelligence provide structured learning processes (Emotional Learning System) to guide teaching, learning, leadership excellence.  Programs will illustrate the essential nature of innovative academic curricula to positively impact academic achievement, career development, college success, and lifelong learning.  A special feature will be an inside look at the Learning Environment Adaptability Project at McLennan Community College and how EI was incorporated into college success, learning framework classes, and interdisciplinary gateway courses.

Business and Government Settings

Developing human potential in organizational settings is an important and guiding vision for successful learning organizations in the 21st century.  The intricate relationship of transformative emotional intelligence skill sets and skills to leadership, performance, and building healthy people, organizations, and communities is illustrated in programs presented by experienced and skilled professionals.  Self and leadership development provide a focus for programs and courses designed to enhance the education, training, and renewal of people in business and government settings.  A special feature will be presentations describing and illustrating the planning and implementation of mentoring and educational programs in organizational settings.

Professional Coaching

Professional Coaching is an emerging, rapidly growing, and diverse profession in the U.S. and globally.  With much encouragement and specific requests to develop a professional coaching program with transformative emotional intelligence, we have developed a high quality program based on our positive assessment approach and personal excellence model.  A pre-conference seminar is scheduled, and program presentations during the conference present and illustrate this new professional coaching program.  A special feature will include programs on the University of Houston-Victoria graduate sequence of four courses in the Adult and Higher Education unit of the College of Education and Human Development and EILS professional certification program.
Conference participants interested in presenting programs or posters should follow the guidelines for submission.  The guidelines are linked to the More Information tab of this conference website.
